I have created a decent skeleton of a song, using MIDI instruments and RealDrums. I now would like to export each channel separately, to be able to continue with adding real (actual, real, analog :-) !) instruments using Cubase.

(I realize that there is also a possibility to handle MIDI in Cubase - but I am a rookie on Cubase as well. So perhaps separate wav-channels is the easiest short term way forward)

Cheers
Mikael

Hi Mikael,

Welcome to the forums smile

How I usually do it is as follows ...

1. Click on "Audio" the the upper most menu bar (#1) and choose "Render MIDI to stereo wav" from the dropdown menu (#2).

2. Now from the menu that opens up: select which folder I want the files saved in (#1); make sure the three checkboxes labelled #2 are active; click on the button called "DXi Direct Render" (#3).

The process usually takes my computer somewhere between 30 and 70 secs.

Hope this helps,
Noel

P.S. Keep in mind that the pan settings and reverb settings will be saved with each file. I always set my panning to center and reverb to zero before exporting because I prefer to add those effects in my DAW. Experiment and see which you like best.

And of course don't forget the "DAW Plugin" feature which allows you to transfer all individual tracks as wav files. Keep in mind a simple drag and drop of any track also works. This is truly a feature which BIAB has multiple ways of addressing.

Thank you! Seems great, I will try it!

So much for my printed manual - dating from BIAB 2012. In which I can only find the export of a complete song to stereo wav.

Now I can edit as I want in Cubase :-)

General comment:
I an so impressed with the time and effort some of you gurus spend on solving/explaning questions. Fantastic work

Mikael,

Glad to hear it's working out!

Don't worry about that the hard copy manual is 2012, it will cover at least 95% of BIAB 2013.

If you have a version of Windows that has the Start Menu, you'll find the manual for 2013 in PDF form under the Band In A Box folder.

The above PDF file is the one that the Help menu is based on. Also, if you go the link below and scroll down the page to the "Video Archives", you'll find a number of tutorials in video format. Don't worry that they don't say 2013, they are all 100% relevant to the present version of the program.

All the best,
Noel

I have now created a song (with BIABs limitions on number of instruments) and exported each instrument to separate wav.

Then I changed BIABs instruments and exported once again, and then mixin' it all in Cubase - resulting in more variation/cannels/instruments than I thought was possible :-)

(no problems at all to get the two sets of export to synch perfectly)

Great fun and a good result - and I still haven't come to the point of adding real, actual, instruments yet.

If you are a 'rookie' in Cubase, you may want to try Realband as an option.
It allows adding real recordings, 48 tracks worth, yet still allows a lot of the BiaB functions. You can generate more tracks or record your own.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
