If the song starts as a slow dance and ends as a break dance......you might have a problem.

minor variations and tempo increases are OK....even desired in live music.... however, I have played with drummers who drop a beat in a roll and end up jacking the tempo 5 bpm as a result..... and others simply rush rather than lead.

A good drummer who can start the songs at the correct tempo and keep them there are much to be desired. In all my years of playing, not many drummers fit into that category.
