How do I adjust the volume by sliding only one fader?

Investigate the Subgroups in bottom right of Mixer screen. You have to enable them in Audio Prefs, then assign the tracks to the subgroups. Works well.

The subgroups option is not working for me. I've selected the "unassigned..." option. When I open up the mixer on a song, I only find the G designation to the right of the "All" slider. The manual makes it seem like the unassigned tracks in the regular mixer should be given the "G" designation - not happening on my mixer.

Also how do you assign tracks to a Group once you got one - also not clear to me.

Thanks for your help

Just to update the above: I found other subgroup discussions on the forum and went back to a song and tried out the directions, but although I was able to create a subgroup - at least the 3 original separate guitar tracks were labeled G2, the G2 slider didn't have any effect on the volume sliders of the three separate tracks when moved up or down.

What should I try next?

Thanks
SR

Try right-clicking the tracks you want to be assigned to the subgroup, and making sure the Port is set to Subgroup2. Works here. Slider definitely works here.

What soundcard? Is the Audio Prefs checkbox enabled for Using Subgroups? Toggle it to be sure.

Thanks rharv, I've got it working now. Guess I expected the slider on the tracks to move when the Group slider moved - it doesn't but that's fine. The assumptions I make - always getting me in trouble.

The track sliders work as as a 'send' in this case.

Example -
track one has kick drum, track two has snare (both sent to a subgroup)

The balance between track one and two is controlled by track settings, but the over all volume (in relation to other tracks) is controlled by the subgroup in this scenario.

The track sliders don't change with subgroup slider changes, as they are the 'send' settings to the subgroup being used. Sounds more complicated than it is ..

In the olden days of analogue consoles the the sub groups were another gain stage. With the advent of the VCA consoles the sub groups do actually move the channel faders thus eliminating that extra gain stage. It would be nice if RB/PT track faders did move to reflect modern consoles.

And now to confuse matters a little more, digital consoles have DCA groups, digitally controlled amplifiers.

I guess that you Guys, sort of, compare in your head, your daws to an old analogue mixing desk setup, at least that's what I do, but sometimes my comparisons fail :-)
