i have always used band in a box for windows(2009.5-2012).
i was thinking about buying a mac computer. is there any major differences in the mac versions to the windows versions? does the mac have realband? will it work with my tascam us-1800? i wasn't sure where to post these questions. i'm basiclly just trying to see if it would be worth switching over to the mac version from the windows version.

I "switched over" last year. Differences - yes. Search this forum for some discussions on these. Real Band - NOT IN MAC VERSION. That's a big bummer IMO. I expect the Tascam unit would work, would suggest to look at their website to see if Mac drivers are available.

I've been happy to be liberated from Windoze. I "inherited" a really nice 27 inch iMac after my wife decided what she really needed was a macbook. I'm not a "power user", so BIAB for Mac serves my needs - mostly generating 12 bar blues to play guitar along with. If there are specific functions you need that aren't in the mac version, you might be disappointed. I guess it comes down to your specific needs.
PG Music does offer 30 day money back guarantee (minus shipping costs), so you could try it out. Unfortunately, you basically end up buying the program again to switch from PC to Mac version.
Are there any specific features that you're concerned about not being available in the Mac version?

Macs come with GarageBand installed, which should allow you to do anything you could do in RealBand.

I already had the Windows version of BIAB 2013 when I switched to a Mac earlier this year.
I have some other legacy programs and files from Windows and from Ubuntu whose data I can't port over to the Mac and use with Mac equivalents, so I bought Parallels and run Windows XP and Ubuntu 12.04 when required, as Virtual Machines.
I believe there are a number of features of BIAB for Windows which aren't available in the Mac version, so this solution suits me fine.
I use shared folders on the Mac to store the BIAB files, along with the PDF leadsheets and MP3 backing tracks I've generated using BIAB, so it's simple to synchronise my iPad via iTunes on the Mac side.
