My sister is sending me some floppy disks of her Roland playing some 15 years ago.

How can I get my power tracks to play, can I just change the Roland format letters to mid?

I seem to have a memory recall that it is possible to change those letters or will I need some conversion program?

SMF=standard midi file
but they are probably not SMFs they are paobably still in Roland format so yes they will need to be converted. If she happened to save them as SMF they will just load up.

Depending on synth used you may be able to find the conversion software online even if they do happen to be in Roland format.
I'd worry more about the floppies themselves being readable.

What synth? How old are the floppies? What format?

Some will load with a simple file extension renaming like OP said. In my experience that is more likely than saving as SMF on Roland stuff. Saving as a MID file more likely. Some may need something like SAMdisk. Hard to say with so few clues, but the fact it's on floppies seems notable to me.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thanks guys, the floppy arrived and the extension displays as mid already so I did not need to convert.

Loaded OK in power tracks and my biab, but my sound card in PC appears not to allow the midi recording necessary to make a wav file.

So I might ask someone local if I can post the contents of the floppy just over 1 mb and convert to wav or mp3 and put on a CD.

Unless you can advise me further.

You need to load in a good softsynth and then you can render in BIAB or PT
