I don't have a cat...my dog seems to like da Blues and the neighbors aren't too close so I just plug into my Boogie amp and rip it.

well, in the computer/interface option, you have the amp modeling hardware such as the POD series of gear and quite a few folks like to use the software solution with Acme Gar Gig, Amplitube and more. There are some fairly good tone options available in there, and while volume is generally less, you can crank the monitors as far up as you want.

I too have a Boogie setting within reach if I want to get louder.... but 98% of the time I have the DAW turned on and the POD is always connected.
