Not necessarily. It wasn't on either of my computers. I had no midi sound from BB until I loaded/installed TTS as the default synth.

The first time I installed I did not know that and called PG support. The tech answering the call asked me if I had installed a synth and then guided me through the process.

I also believe the wavetable synth is built into some of the sound cards but not all of the cards will have it. Wavetable is not the best sounding synth which is why softsynths are popular.
