I want to run BIAB and record audio from my Roland JV-1010 into either RealBand or Nuendo. Having opened both, BIAB, which has worked fine all morning, now reports that "MIDI drivers are in use by another program" and gives me no output to my Roland. No, they're not. I changed them in Nuendo and closed and restarted Nuendo and BIAB. Even changing them to "None" makes no difference. The FAQs do not address this and the forum archive only goes back a few weeks.

I have yet to record AUDIO from the Roland in either RealBand or Nuendo. (I was able to record a few minutes of a self-produced CD in Nuendo a few nights ago; not sure it's repeatable.) Doesn't matter, they both crash after a few minutes anyway. I got innumerable error messages--and could not exit the selection dialogues--when I tried to change the ASIO settings in RB. Had to use Task Manager to quite, and BIAB crashed when I did.

I see that the Creative ASIO drivers aren't the way to go. Fine, I'll use the DirectX Full Duplex, even though it has greater latency. If I use the KVR ASIO drivers I lose the use of the front-panel volume control on my Audigy soundcard, an important feature. I am close to chucking the thing, though.

I have a plan B in the form of a TASCAM US-224 MIDI/audio I/O and control surface. I've used it before and it worked well for what I was doing at the time. It's just that the Audigy has three pairs of analog inputs, optical, SPDIF, and FireWire. I was hoping to get some use out of some of that.

Be really cool if I could get the control surface working with Nuendo, but that hasn't happened yet, either. My copy of Cubase VST which came with it recognizes it fine, I just can't do anything useful with the program. I also have a $1500 piece of software intended to do the job a little better than a bit of bundled freeware.

Eventually much of what I create in BIAB is intended to be ported into Reason, which in turn will be ReWired to Nuendo. I did it once, but haven't been able to repeat it since. Neither manual says anything about ReWire. The story per the Prophead website is, boot up the host, then Reason, and you're there. NOT. Well, once.

I have AND READ the manuals for every piece of hard- and software I have (less RealBand, story posted elsewhere; trying to make it work from online help is, for me, an exercise in futility). I'm going to refill the two ink cartridges I wasted last night trying to print my own and try again.

I can have fun with any ONE program, and do, but I'm trying to get some work done here. Ain't happening.

Richard

P.S.: HEY, PG: GIVE US THE MANUAL FOR RealBand, OKAY?! (OTOH, if they think it's not ready for release, perhaps they could share with us the deficiences in the one we're using? Hmmm?)
