John,

After 4 hours of exploring add-ons, and the add-on reviews
I dropped the hammer...

Thanks for heads up.

Now gotta download over 20 gig of goodies.

Long time CW owner/user (since DOS version 2, PS Ditto for BIAB) and currently own Sonar X2 Producer, which I ALMOST skipped buying for multiple reasons.

In any case, I'll be skipping X3, at least for the foreseeable future.

While I run Win 7 64 bit I have yet to install the 64 bit version of Sonar X2. I have no "dedicated" 64 bit plug-ins (i.e., I have Kontakt 5 which is a "switch hitter" but I didn't buy it for 64 bit use). I have yet to consciously buy, or download, any 64 bit only VSTs/VSTi's and I own NO VST3's.

HOW DO I MANAGE?

Larry

Larry,

Reading your Signature, me thinks your doing quite well.
I picked it up for the Melodyne and also the Addictive drums.

Seeker,

My post, on re-reading, came off as arrogant, snippy, .. sorry didn't mean to sound like that. Yes I have more toys than I should be allowed to own, or that are even listed :-)

Larry,

I did not take it that way at all. I just barely know how to use
the DAW. Power Tracks and then RB has been my main mix tools.
Forced over to Sonar based on great x2a producer price and need
for 64 bit DAW to use a Lot of VSTi memory hogs...

Not in any way did I think it was wrong.....
"Snoopy" is still "Dancin"..... And "awaitin" the new PG system.

If you haven't already got XLN's Addictive Drums you're going to love them. I use them in almost all my projects.

Larry,

There is a plugin which bridges 32 bit VST for use in 64 bit apps. However, I think Cakewalk is still using a VST into DX wrapper - so I'm not sure that the bridge plugin works.

http://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/

There's a demo so you could give it a whirl if you can do a dual install of Cakewalk.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I have a small stockpile of my 'goto' plugins which are all 32 bit and my current host is 32 bit (run in Win7 64 bit Home Premium as Administrator without an issue). But I'm getting ripe for upgrading to a 64 bit host. I'm very tempted by Mixcraft's video editing features and it's price. I qualify for an academic discount on it.

I think that DX wrapper was for Sonar 5 and older. Present Sonar uses a bridge to use 32 bit plugs in the 64 bit versions. Noel has posted comments before how all of this stuff works.
Here is a new Blog on the latest VST3 support that implements the ARA support for Melodyne.

Thanks very much John for the positive feedback regarding Addictive drums.

Just wondering are they easy enough to setup in DAW and how do the sounds compare to Realdrums which I currectly use?

many thanks

I did add them as VSTi to BIAB last night. They came
right up.

I just finished a quick function test of AD's.
They worked just fine on the simple test.
09:30am west coast.

Have tried them out standalone with sounds and they are
really excellent sounding.

My opinion, but for pure sound quality, don't think you
can beat RealDrums. They are first class top of the line.

AD appealed to me due to heavy use of VSTi's.
Do need to learn more about building up "my" sets tho.
The new age, Ambient does not seem to be in that system.

With all due respect I will disagree with you on this. A good MIDI drum sound source can have be equal to RealTracks for sound quality. BUT the BIG difference is how they are played. Pro drummers are playing on RTs. You will need to do a lot of MIDI manipulation to get the same feel. There are MIDI drum tracks out there like Groove Monkee that are recorded with pro drummers playing on a MIDI drum kit. They are not quantized and, with a good MIDI drum sound source, sound as good as RTs IMHO.

Mario,

No sweat, my opinion is based on midi drums thru the years.

And you made a great point, live example "John Jarvis"
and PG folks with their super midi offerings.

I love Real Tracks as much as anybody but there is no doubt in my mind a program like Jamstix driving a good VSTI drum module with a killer sampled kit can sound just as good. Also you have full control over the mix with a separate track for each drum kit piece, allowing you to pan and adjust the volume of each component as well as a bunch of other parameters.

As to live midi drums, Biab has hired live drummers for Biab for years. And no, I'm not confusing Real Drums here. Many of the stock Biab midi drum parts were done by live drummers on a midi drum kit. There's one of those little symbols next to the style that denotes live midi drums.

Bob:

I'm curious about this symbol you've mentioned that indicates live midi drums have been played for that style.

Could you explain what the symbol looks like and were to find it in the syle picker?

Thanks.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!

With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!

Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!

Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.

Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.

Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!

And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
