My opinion, but for pure sound quality, don't think you
can beat RealDrums. They are first class top of the line.
With all due respect I will disagree with you on this. A good MIDI drum sound source can have be equal to RealTracks for sound quality. BUT the BIG difference is how they are played. Pro drummers are playing on RTs. You will need to do a lot of MIDI manipulation to get the same feel. There are MIDI drum tracks out there like Groove Monkee that are recorded with pro drummers playing on a MIDI drum kit. They are not quantized and, with a good MIDI drum sound source, sound as good as RTs IMHO. I love Real Tracks as much as anybody but there is no doubt in my mind a program like Jamstix driving a good VSTI drum module with a killer sampled kit can sound just as good. Also you have full control over the mix with a separate track for each drum kit piece, allowing you to pan and adjust the volume of each component as well as a bunch of other parameters.
