You cannot use the Render command with an external MIDI hardware synth, if that is what you are doing. Instead, you must route the output of the hardware synth back to your sound card and record in real time.
I use Adobe Audition to record, so I'm not familiar with Freecorder. Some here use the free Audacity program.
