Hi, "MarioD"... Thanks for your comment! Please excuse my igno-wence (yuk-yuk!), but I had to look up the definition of the phrased you used, "nice chops". At http://dictionary.infoplease.com/chop, this is what I read: Slang: musical ability on any instrument, esp. in playing jazz or rock; technical virtuosity.Man, them "chops" you applauded belong to Band-in-a-Box! When it comes to my piano "playing" skills, that's exactly what I'm doing: playing, as in "around"! Bless your bones! bluage

Well, I could've worded things better in my previous comment. I meant that the Brubeck Trio was on the same show with Joplin and Led Zeppelin amongst others. Not that they actually played together....but who knows what might have happened backstage! And I think Mulligan was playing with him. They actually apologized at the beginning of the set for being there and were thrilled when they heard the reception as they began to play.

Janice & Bud...
Yeah, who knows what could have happened backstage? It's fun to imagine the possibilities, the things musicians do when no one is looking!
Thanks for getting back.

Hello, "F.M.M."...
I apologize for the delay in responding to your post. Thank you for taking the time to listen to the song.
Glad to know the mix and the arrangement "kept you engaged". What more could a songwriter, or a musician ask for? Band-in-a-Box makes what I compose sound so good most of the time, that I honestly feel as though I'm taking credit that I don't deserve.
However, knowing that it brings pleasure to people makes all the guilt go away!
Gratefully,
bluage

Hey Bluage,
Real jazz goin' on here! Now, it's true that chops refers to technical prowess on a musical instrument.
The question is: What's the connection between virtuoso musical technique and something you buy at the butcher's to cook for dinner?
Let's see what the members of the Off Topic Forum have to say.

Hello, Dean...
That's a good question! Ever seen a pig play a musical instrument?
Thanks for listening and commenting on the song.

Enjoyed every note!
And the answer (from me anyway) to your question: Ever seen a pig play a musical instrument? is yes, many times.

Hi bluage, This sounds incredibly good. I LOVE a good, uptempo jazz waltz and this one stands alongside the best I've ever heard. From a music point of view, what impressed me greatly was the melody. It's fantastic! In addition, the harmony used to provide the musical texture for the backing was perfect! From an arranging point of view, the Hi-Q sounds shone. I would never have known that you'd used midi-based sounds if you hadn't said anything. Sampletank was a brilliant choice. Lastly, from a production point of view, I don't think you could have assembled this any better. Excellent all round! All the best, Noel P.S. I'm glad I managed to help out with your problem. It was a pleasure Anytime you need a hand, don't hesitate to ask. I'm always there to help if I can.

Hello, "Noel96"...
I agree that the "Hi-Q" sounds are impressive. They have the presence and the "live" feel of the Real Tracks instruments.
That I ended up using SampleTank was a "happy accident". I was as surprised as you were to hear how lively the sampled instruments sounded. To my ears, virtual instrument software -- in general -- do not offer instrument sounds that lend themselves to the interpretation of jazz music. I think it's the way the instrument samples are recorded, which usually is done in an orchestral hall setting, so the "jazz club" ambience is missing.
I am glad you enjoyed listening to "Goodbye, Cabrini-Green". Thank you so much for your comments!

Hey, there, "aleck rand" a.k.a Dean Clark...
Both of your names are cool!
This song, "Goodbye, Cabrini-Green", came to me all at once while reading a newspaper article, so, I gotta give up most of the credit for its "inventiveness" to that hallowed, ancient spirit of artistic inspiration, "The Muse". She presented me with a gift on this one.
Only problem is, she has a habit of visiting me when I'm not thinking about music. Must be trying to teach me some kind of lesson, I guess...
I'm glad that you enjoyed listening to it, and thank you for your comment!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
