I usually prefer wma myself, especially when dealing with higher frequencies.
True MP3 has issues with licensing, even though many ignore this

So many companies stopped improving it years ago anyway.
Every time I need to get MP3 to work on a new system, there is a song and dance routine needed to get it to work (Audacity does the job but is another step, so falls in the song and dance category). I've purchased various 'legal' MP3 encoders and they have all fallen by the wayside over the years. WMA just works for over 90% of users right out of the box.
