I was battling with this yesterday. Simply try other chord variations .... Try C2, C5, Cmaj, and plain old C... sometimes that will work... it certainly worked for me. The variations are not limited to just those. The more theory you know the more options you have to try.
Sometimes you just don't want that clean 7th ringing in there so figure out the alternatives and try them.
