The file is a .MGU file, and just in case it matters, it's not on a stick but on a hard drive with a USB interface.
There is no .wav file with the same first name as the .MGU file.
I'm thinking the problem started because the file's path previously was of the form \\networksharename\mypath\thefile.MGU and then I accessed it by P:\mypath\thefile.MGU and somehow there was a link to something.
After a couple of BIAB starts and exits, and starting again just now to help answer some questions, I notice that the file loaded without the problem.
On the topic, is there some method to inform BIAB that all of your favorites list files have migrated from \oldpath to \newpath?
Finally, I have found a cool signature with sufficiently dry humor.
