This started as a blues tune with a long guitar solo. How it ended up here I'm not really sure. This is phenomenon known as BIAB surfing mouse syndrome. What this ended up as is a

kind of urban R&B sound. In other words, the city side of this country boy. Sorry Merle, I can't help myself. It's all Peter Gannon's fault.

It's Too Late

Late at night I heard her crying

It’s hard to say but I still care

Fool that I am I kept on trying

Trying to find what once was there

But it’s too late too many changes

The nights are getting dark and long

And these days are getting stranger

How could I have done her wrong

But it’s too late I’m gonna miss her

Blindly I thought that I could see

How she felt when I kissed her

But I don’t think she’ll be coming back to me

I know its rough I know how this can feel

Yeah I've been down this road before

Please Tell me this nightmare isn't real

It was not enough she wanted more

But it's too late too late for me to learn

I can't seem to change my lyin ways

It doesn't matter that once before I was burned

I'm counting down my numbered days

But it’s too late I’m gonna miss her

Blindly I thought that I could see

How she felt when I kissed her

But I don’t think she’ll be coming back to me

TOM!

I'm stunned! That was terrific. A beautiful song. What a vocal!
(..stunned by the style, of course).

The sax intro worked like it was written for the song. Best use of that I've heard.

"Blindl.l.l.l.y.y.y.y..." Loved that! SO glad you put the lyric up for this! A SOLID write! Both lyric and MELODY!!!

Great choice of instrumentation. Great mix. Subtle and powerful - not many can accomplish that.

I SO enjoyed listening to that!

Color me impressed!

Sure did enjoy listening that this number.
Great lyrics, nice Sax work. Really excellent.

The backing music levels are really well balanced.
And the sax fill at the end was a fine touch. Icing on the cake.
Great job!

Very cool. I liked how sparse the arrangement was - great clarity in the mix.
Good singing, too. laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Good stuff all round
I would like to hear the blues tune with a long guitar solo version but this version is excellent.

floyd, Thanks a lot for your comments, they really brought a big smile to my face. I'm glad I was able to twist your ear a bit. If I was able to impress you, I guess it turned out OK.

Scott, Bob and SD, Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I really appreciate the feedback and I always look forward to what each of you say.

Video, it took awhile to find the sax part. I wasn't sure that I wanted sax but it went well with the urban drums. Thanks for listening and commenting.

David and Alyn, I am glad to hear you guys enjoyed it. It is fun to step outside the box once in a while. Thanks for the comments. Tom

Especially enjoyed your vocal, the "blindly" was a really nice melodic touch and like the arrangement.

Hey Tom,
Ok wow! That was very cool. cool I love how it started sparse & built up. Wonderful vocal & mix.

If I had one nit it would be the reverb. I think the sax would benefit from a different setting or maybe just less of the setting you have. Also maybe just a touch of delay (220-250ms) on the sax would be cool. Just my $.02 FWIW. crazy

I very much enjoyed the listen,

Greg

Hi Tom,

I enthusiastically agree with floyd regarding the sax intro. It's perfect a fit and it really grabbed me right at the start. My very first thought was "Whooooaaa! What a great sound!" The half bar or so sax solo before the drums kick in was a touch of arranging genius!

Actually, speaking of arranging, the chords and instruments that you've put together to frame the song are inspired and outstanding. If this song were a painting, it would be described as a masterpiece for sure.

That long held note fade out is exactly right! It made me stop and reflect on the lyrics.

I've already listened half a dozen times and I've got to go back once more!

Regards,
Noel

P.S. As others have already said, the way you sing "Blindly" takes the song into the stratosphere!

Hey Tommy,

You're the real deal, buddy. You know, there's another song called It's too late and what you've done, certainly up to the level of that one, inspires me to do a version of the "other" It's too late.

Danny and Josie, thanks for listen and the comments.

Greg, you may be right about the reverb. The vocal and the sax are drenched in verb purposely. However I will look into doing a combo of delay and verb when I revisit it. I take very seriously all the comments on this forum. Thank you

Noel, thank you for your very generous comments. You made my day.

Aleck,I never thought of that. The Carole King song is the work of a master. Thanks for listening. Tom

Hi Tommy
A great tune and top class choice of instruments and the mix is clean and crisp.
I like the use of "Blindly" as if its a line of verse on its own - brill writing and singing.
Thanks
Ian

Tommy,

Really, really nice! I've been out for a while, and have come back to some nice stuff here! Most everyone has commented on the way you sing "blindly" and I totally agree. Takes this song to the next level. Really enjoyed it.

Great song and great arrangement. Sax sounds as though it's in the room with me. I really like the drums and bass. Vocals just right.
