Hi François, The activation is linked to the hardware of the computer. That being said, the present system allows for BIAB to be used on three computers. Also, under Help, it's possible to release the activation from a particular machine. This frees up the three activations. Also, PG Music have said that there are no restrictions on how many times BIAB can be activated/deactivated.  For the activate/deactivate to work, the machines involved need to have an internet connection while being activated or deactivates as the case may be. If these options do not suit your needs, you should contact PG Music and explain your situation. They have said many times since 2014 was introduced, that they will listen to each customer's request. Lastly, your present USB disk will still work perfectly unless you overwrite it. I'd be inclined to keep this for jamming and get a new drive for 2014. Hope these thoughts work, Noel
