Hi everybody
for my MIDI tracks in BIAB and RT I use a Roland SonicCell. Now, while in BIAB there is no problem at all (I mean: if I choose a trumpet for a soloist track, I have a trumpet sound), in RB, if - for example - for a MIDI track I need a trumpet soloist MIDI track, even if the patch displayed is correct, the SOUND I have is always a piano sound.
Where am I wrong?
EDIT: if I try, WHILE the song is playing, to change the patch, it's OK, I get the sound I choose. BUT, if I press stop and then I press again play, the piano sound returns...

You're not understanding midi tracks. There are embedded commands in them that set the instrument patch as soon as you revert to the beginning and hit play. You can change patches all you want anywhere in the middle of the song but as soon as you take it back to the beginning the first command that is embedded in that midi track is changing it to piano.
Then to really confuse you some downloaded midi files will have program changes imbedded in the middle of a file like going from an AP to an EP on the bridge then back to AP.
You see all that that by highlighting that track and opening up the event editor and you'll see what's there. You may have noticed volume changes too, halfway through the song you change a volume slider to get a better mix and yet start over and that slider reverts to where it was. Same thing, there's a CC7 volume command embedded in the track probably right next to the program change command.
Be careful about simply stripping out those CC7's because if the author of that midi file was good then those CC7's are what creates the overall dynamics of the song. Strip those out and the thing is going to play at the same level all the way through. Once you're comfortable with this then sure strip those out and using the new node based automation you can draw in your own dynamics.

Thanks Bob, but what I cannot understand is the reason why if I create a MIDI soloist track in BIAB, I obtain the right patch and everything is perfect, while if I do exactly the same thing in RB, everything goes back always to a piano sound...

Hi Alf, Try this ... 1. Right click on the MIDI track in question and click on "Patch select dialog ..." 2. From the box that pops up, choose the type of MIDI (#1) and then instrument (#2) you want. Hope this helps, Noel

The reason given by Jazzmammal above is the reason why the patch changes after Play. To explain further, all Midi Controller Data set in the Tracks Windows or Mixer is overwritten by the Midi Code embedded in the track which has priority.
I generally delete all the Midi Code from the start, re-develop the code to incorporate bends etc and add effects after recording to audio.
If you wish to retain the volumn changes CC7 then I would suggest that you replace CC7 codes with CC11 codes globally. CC11 does not affect the track gain changes during mixing at the Midi stage.

Alfie, It might help if you explain the method used to create the midi track.

Thanks everybody, after re-installing RB now everything is OK, I mean if I want a trumpet solo on a MIDI track, I obtain a trumpet sound.
