Are you talking about the sound of those instruments in Band-in-a-Box?
If so, what version of Band-in-a-Box do you have? Do you have Real Tracks?
What are you using for your MIDI output?
More details would help us help you.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.

Hi JMD
The first step is to try VSC DXi which is a soft synth that came with many of the various BIAB installation disc's
There are two versions but the only one to install is VSC DXi
Which SB X-Fi card do you have - if it is Music or Audio then you will not have many ways to enhance the sound whereas the SB X-Fi Xtreme Gamer card has a lot of features
The VSC DXi is a soft synth which by-passes the soundcard inbuilt sounds and is far more realistic - once installed you just choose the MS GS Wavetable output driver to avoid problems
Also the RealTracks/Drums are brilliant and I think require BIAB v2008 and later - you can tell what you have on your version by going to "what add-ons do I have" in the Help dropdown
PM me if you have any other questions

It is worth checking out the Dare-to-compare demos at this page: http://www.pgmusic.com/dare_to_compare.htmThe ForteDXi is a cheap one ($40) considering how good it sounds. It is worth trying the demo version, which fully functions for 30 days.

JMD, Better sounds cost money. There's no way around that. The Synth B on your sound card is probably a SoundFont Synth. If you have SoundFonts, you can load another one in place of the default one that Creative stuck in there. Do a Google Search for SoundFonts. You're looking for a General MIDI or GM soundfont. There are some out there that are huge, over 60 megabytes. However, size is not an indicator of quality. Most are free, some are pay. Download and try them. Learn about SoundFonts, how to install them, edit them, and make your own. Next, after you get frustrated with SoundFonts, you can try using a DXi or VSTi as stated above. Some are free, some are pay. The Roland VSC DXi, if you're using Windows XP, the Coyote Forte aren't bad. Hardware synth or Module, when you get frustrated with trying to get DXis to work right. Several choices there, Yamaha, Casio are low end, but good sounds for the dollar. For only $199, you might consider this Yamaha entry level keyboard. http://keyboards-midi.musiciansfriend.co...oard?sku=439620It's on sale at Musician's Friend. You can listen to sound clips of it's brother keyboard here: http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/Cont...mp;CTID=205100#You can spend a lot more money, but the next step that I would go from here would be to a dedicated sound module, specifically the Ketron SD2, which PG Music sells here: http://www.pgmusic.com/ketronsd2.htmListen to demos of the unit here: http://www.ketronus.com/demos.php Scroll down until it says SD2. These are *THE BEST* sounds for the dollar that you can get right now, bar none! If you want the best sounds, you have to pay for them. Gary
I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

JMD, piggybacking on what jazzman said, I think BIAB 2007 did have some Real Drums, but as he said, did not yet have Real Tracks.
You really should listen to the newer demos of Real Track instruments here on the PG Music site, and think about upgrading to version 2009.

For $39 at Best Buy pick up Cakewalk's MC5 Not for the program, which is good but nothing like BiaB, but for the Roland TTs GM synth, it is a nice step up
