for what its worth from someone with not 100% eyesight - I use 1024 res as I can focus on that and its nice and clear. Running up to 1280 res changes the screen so the "from" pops in BUT the screen is not clear enough to use close to.
I could live with the slightly different shape of the GUI - after all I've got used to the new one quite quickly - but not with poor screen quality. So its back to 1024 for me until the patch comes along.
