I have a song with a real track piano part that I just love very much and wish to get my pianist to play that piano part on the piano.

To do this, I want to export the file to a midi file, which I can import into my notation software (Notion 4), where I can make it pretty and do with it what I want and then print it out on paper to have handy for my pianist to sit down at a piano and practice the piano parts.

Probably something I am missing somewhere, but can you please tell me how to save any real track part as midi.

I know it should be possible. The Midi dialogue allows one to do this for the drums trach only. Somewhere the BIAB program has the Midi parts, as it can display the notes being played on a keyboard on the piano view.

For the record, I have the audiophile version of 2014.

Thanks

First, the piano RealTrack has to have notation. If it does, the instrument button for that track will have an underscore. Does yours?

[Another way to tell is to choose RealTracks that say they have notation. There is a Chart column near the far right in the RealTracks picker dialog. If it says "N", there is notation.]

I think it is possitive on all accounts. First, when I go into the notation view, it display the notation. Second, the realtrack picker has a N in the chart column. Still when I export the midi file, it contains only one drum track.

OK. Click on the .MID icon. The resulting files should have one with a .MID extension. Make sure you use Type 1 MultiTrack Normal for the Save As option.

Yup. Have done so. Exported as type 1. Still, only one track, i.e. The drum track.

What version of BIAB do you have? And what checkboxes are set in the Options in that .MID icon?

Have you tried Opt., Return to Factory Settings?

I am most interested in the answer to this because I have never been able to export RealTracks into any of my notation software programs - I have Sibelius and Overture 4. I have to make sure that I only use midi for arrangements I want to transfer.

Like the OP, I often have RealTracks I would love to put into the arrangement. Most of the time, in fact, because they are generally so much better. I knew about the 'N' but it did not help.

Could it be that some notation software will not accept the midi conversion of a RealTrack?

But if it is just a question of understanding the procedure properly, lets play this one to its finale - which I don't use BTW. grin

Hi Matt
I believe that the O/P has Audiophile version of 2014.

Yes, I see that is there, thanks.

Let's compare checkbox settings.

Apologies for butting in Matt, but converting a RT to midi is something I tried recently and managed to get to work.

In version 2014, what I did was to drag the track to the midi quadrant of the Drop Station.

In the below example, I've selected the Piano track (since it has a green underscore) and dragged it across.

Once the item is processed, by right-clicking on the Drop Station icon, it's possible to copy the midi file to a chosen folder.

As Matt has already mentioned, if a RT doesn't have a green underscore, this will not work.

Hope this helps,
Noel

P.S. Sepheritoh and Graham, if you want to read a little more about it, have a look at page 9 of the New Features pdf that came with BIAB 2014

Thanks Noel. It works fine for me. That's why I thought to ask what might be different between my settings and theirs.
