I have a Reggae tune I'm writing, the tonal center is A, but it's a mixolydian progression. Chorus: ||: A / / / | D / A / | G / / / | G / A / :|| I want the A chord to be just the triad as A7 for the tonic chord doesn't sound right for reggae. But the melody includes the b7 over the A and I want the soloist to include the b7 over the A. Is there a way to do that? I played the melody on the guitar here (will be vocal), the G note (the b7) is prominent. https://soundcloud.com/fep1/a-red-sky-draft-1

Hi Frank,
If you set it to the relative major key, that should work (in theory at least).
For example, the relative major of G mixolydian is C (i.e. both have no sharps or flats in the key signature). If A is your tonal centre and you're sure that you're in the mixolydian mode then the relative major is D. With this in mind, I'd try setting BIAB to D Major. The key signature setting is beside the tempo window.
Hope this helps, Noel

[main menu ] Edit - Song Settings - [select checkbox] "Solos should have a bluesy feel"
That should do it....

If A is your tonal centre and you're sure that you're in the mixolydian mode then the relative major is D. With this in mind, I'd try setting BIAB to D Major. Noel Noel, that is very interesting. I have to admit, I never thought about a "relative major" to a Mixolydian mode. But, yes, you're right. G Mix has a F instead of an F#, so it does have the same notes as C Major.
However, even though the notes may be the same ...
In the ten million rock songs that are in Mixolydian mode (Gloria, a bunch of Dead tunes, maybe every Who song, etc.) the b7 is empphasized a lot. That's what makes the songs work so well. It's just not the same.

Thanks folks. When I get back home I'll give those suggestions a try.
Another thing I'll try is:
Change the A chord to A7, audition the soloists to find one I like, freeze the soloist track, change the chord back to A. That's a work around that invoilves some hiccups in the work flow, but maybe it will work.
