They are two different programs with two different purposes. I for one don't want them combined. I have no use for the BiaB features and the ones in there now get annoying. I wish I could just remove that whole middle song generating section from my screen (and the program) and just keep the realtracks feature.

I do like the BIAB features in RB, but only as a gateway to working with individual tracks. I think it would be nice for BIAB to have it's own set of tracks Window for just BIAB-specific tracks (or alternately, make the BIAB tracks something like 41-48, at the bottom. The BIAB track generating-specific commands should then be in it's own window (like when you click on the RealTrack or RealDrums icon). That way, you can lay down your BIAB bed tracks (whether from an existing BIAB song or from one generated within RB); but after that, you can get BIAB out of your way and start working on traditional tracks sequencing. I do like having those BIAB features (and I do want some more implemented) in RB, but the perspective of working in RB should really be more PowerTracks oriented (if that makes any sense).

But to each his own.

Wow comparing RB to Nuendo? that is a stretch, and i might add not fair. Nuendo is like what $700? RB is like $120? Nuendo is like several versions and several years old, RB is like on version 2? My guess is that RB will mature nicely from here, but we have to remember that it is a far tad more complex than other DAWs and also will take longer to impliment all the toys. Nuendo, Protools, Cubase, Sonar, all are more expensive and older more mature programs, but none of them do anything like RTs and Rds, plus integrate that with midi and audio.

Not only that but to compare RB to anything else is like comparing apples to sardines. Explain to me Ryzard how you can input chords into Nuendo and have it create a cool new guitar/keyboard/bass/whatever part for you? Then you decide you don't like that part, click a window and it creates a whole new part in a different style. If you're only comparing the midi/audio recording functions and leaving out completely the Biab song creating part, then you're not comparing RB you're comparing Power Tracks and that only costs $49.
Russ, regarding your comment about the time it takes to load 20 tracks in an existing project, until you've rendered them to your mixed down stereo wave, that's just the way it is. I also use Adobe Audition and it's the same thing there. They call it session files, RB calls it seq files. Whatever you call them, they are active audio and midi project files in a dedicated format and they must be loaded. Ever notice that when you import a wav file how long it takes and, if you save the project RB converts it to a seq file? It's still audio but now it's in a different format and it must be loaded separately. It's not just the audio tracks themselves, it's all the plugins and synths too. If you're using a big soft synth with a large audio library, that takes time to load. Forte is a small sampleset but Sampletank or Garritan? Different story. Audio eats up processor speed and memory and this is what drives PC sales. The only cure is faster processors, memory, all the rest of it.

Rob and Bob,

Read what I said more carefully. There was no comparison between RB and Nuendo. None. I made the simple statement that I have learned to use Nuendo as a sequencer more quickly than I have RB.

For stylistic reasons--most of my work is heavily oriented toward electronica--I still do most of my song creation in BIAB and typically port the results as MIDI files into Reason before adding guitar parts in Nuendo. Is anyone going to argue that it is easier to get two non-Rewire-equipped apps to work together than it is two that are? Come on.

When RB works predictably, it is an awesome thing. As it stands, working with RB as a sequencer is, for me, a hit-and-miss process for which I have neither the patience or time. This is obviously my limitation, okay? When I can do my basic creative work in BIAB and port it without issue into RB (or, better, do that work in RB itself), and continue seamlessly to do both my audio and MIDI production there, with all of the unique features that RB and RT offer, I will.

R.

whether as a VSTi or thru ReWire the implementation I think is secondary I'll take whatever is faster, although it seems to me that VSTi implementation appears to be cleaner and more efficient. The use of it would be the same. In my case its a huge workflow improvement. RB or BIAB is my "prototyping" environment, but I use Reaper as my DAW where I drop "live" inspired jammed in material into the mix. On my other post I asked for ReWire well just because Sibelius just came out with Sib 6 which includes ReWire support and I had not thought about asking for VST support at that time, it seems that ReWire may be faster to crank out i.e. from a development perspective than VST 2.4 , but I really don't know.

It would gel my workflow greatly, right now I rely on midi/audio exports which makes cycling back and forth as one iterates thru the composition a bit too painful.

thanks

I do like the idea of a Rewire type software integrated into an ever-improving BIAB/Real Band, and especially the "bottomless black hole" of audio and midi/port connections...just waiting to be "unionized together" in tactfully professional ways!!

Then, at my future live gigs I could use many more audio/midi-hardware and software-based keyboards/sound modules...all banging away live (with a full-size video of Real Band Musicians playing up there behind, on the projection screen.

ryzard.
heres my useless 2 cents..lol.
your running a laptop correct ??
lets look at the ideal environment...the one i want.
and prolly many others too.
and i dont care whether rewire or whatever.

i see the day coming where we have a product like RB
on our pc's , and seperately gigs of every orchestra and other sounds
known to man/woman.
a 300 piece orchestra at ones fingertips or band of session musicians.
we select a style or build our own style..
put in the chord arrange , then while playing back the generation try on the fly
lots of different sound pictures useing the orchestral and other libs at our disposal.
but the problem is..right now , el cheapo lappies just arent up to the task imho.
they lack power.

prolly people are faring better with i7 quad core laptops ...
http://www.intel.com/Consumer/Learn/Notebook/corei7-detail.htm
but i see so many people haveing problems useing el cheapo consumer lappies with
lots of traks n plug ins n big sample libs. and trying to achieve the vision i
stated at the beginning of this post.

in summary you can have rewire etc etc , but there are lots of other factors to
consider at the hardware engineering level too.
the undrlying pc hardware platform engineering wise has to be there too.
and it just isnt right now.
i suspect slaveing RB to nuendo or vice versa in a complex tracking situation is
gonna make a lot of todays puny laptops cough up.

i just dont think at the hardware internal pc guts level its there yet.
we all want the same thing, a very flexible 300 pice band of musicians/virtual
session musicians we can call up from a lib.
so from the lib of session musicians we can decide
which ones we want to use on a particular song.
"hey fred mate..your a great violin player"...load fred in rb ,
or bert the great saxophonist or mary the great harp player.
and lets also load up gertrude the piano player, and wheezy henry on sax too.
lovely idea, but we need the computer platforms too.

this is all coming, but i feel its not there yet.
ive looked at nuendo. nice software , but its orientation is not towards
artificial intelligence/trak generation etc etc.
rather pricey imho.
heck there are still lots of pg users i suspect running old systems.
such just wont handle it all.

Rewire would dramatically improve the usefulness of Real Band for me.

What I would be looking for is a way to use RB as a plug-in (Rewire or VSTi - I don't care which) in Cubase or Samplitude.

I have a lot of good-sounding soft synths, but they either crash RB/BIAB or if they do work, I can only use one at a time.
But there really isn't anything that matches the "real" factor of Real Tracks, so I usually do the Real Tracks and export the audio.
The drawback is I have to redo the song to change key or tempo.

I don't really want to pay for the power of Cubase or Samplitude built into RB/BIAB,
But being able to link RB/BIAB to my DAW via Rewire would be a big step forward.

I don't know too much about ReWire but I've been reading about it and from what I can tell, incorporating it into RB would really increase the versatility of RB.

I haven't read the entire thread. but I assume everyone knows that rewire does not work on 64bit systems? Propellerheads has not developed 64bit compatibility for rewire, so if you have vista 64 or win7 64bit (or even XP 64) then you will not be able to use rewire even if PG Music makes it available for RB.
