Thanks, rharv, for adding the "make a copy first" advice.

Suspect there's different behaviors based on OS, if one makes changes to the original text of patches.ini (vs just appending) and/or how often one recompiles.

I had to go through three iterations before a successful PATCHES.BIN recompile:
1. First time, deleted the stuff I didn't need in patches.ini, added the Yamaha stuff. When RB opened, it recompiled but when selecting a higher patch, the MSB, LSB changes didn't take place
2. Second pass, took copy of original patches.ini, no deletions, added Yamaha stuff. When opened RB, no PATCHES.BIN recompile - so renamed patches.BIN to patches.BINOLD, opened RB - recompile happened "successfully", but no patch pick list at all; Program Change dialog popped up.
3. Third time, move Realband folder to Delete Folder, did fresh reinstall of RB2014 (with Build 3b), added Yamaha stuff to fresh Patches.ini (after making copy) - bingo, RB recompiled PATCHES.BIN, pick list opened, access to Yamaha sound bank as expected...go figure confused
