howdy folks.
I'm not sure if i'm in the right forum for this Q, but here goes.

I am a professional acoustic guitar player who owns BIAB 2014. I would like to start inputting from my gtr, instead of the computer keyboard.

what do i need to do? what equipment do i need?

my guitar has a very good pickup. the output can be either a mono or stereo send.

many thanks.
looking forward to your assistance.

Happy New Year!

I am going to assume that you are talking about audio to MIDI, thus you will need either hardware or software like the following:

Software:
http://www.widisoft.com/english/widi-audio-to-midi-vst.html
Or this http://audio-to-midi-vst.en.softonic.com/
I do not have any experience with either of this. Also google/bing audio to MIDI and you will find a number of other software programs that do this. The best audio to MIDI program I have come across is Melodyne Editor http://www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?id=editor2

Hardware:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/T...CFcpDMgodECQAXA
Again google/bing for others just remember good audio to MIDI software and hardware is expensive.

There are a ton of way, microphone, cable to the mike input, but if I wanted really good clean recording, and the options to add other things later i would get one of these

thanks for the info and suggestions.

at the moment i am not too worried about sound quality. i want to be able to write out charts (with melody) for other band members, and to write out lessons and simple songs for students.

i can play the melody much faster on guitar than i can type it on on the keyboard.

is there some way to go from the 1/4" output on my guitar to a USB into my computer and enter through that?

thanking you in advance!

Assuming (or once) you have a good AUDIO input device to PC and I don’t mean the motherboard sound card Read this thread:

http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=231906&nt=2&page=1

then go here and try it for free

http://jamorigin.com/products/midi-guitar/

looks like ~ $100 is minimum sunk cost here : the above SW, which in my case I like, or the next link to HW and I have never tired it so you are on your own)

http://www.sonuus.com/products_g2m.html

or if you just want a dedicated "guitar like" controller, because you can't play keyboards, just to get notes/chords into PC the You Rock Guitar WORKS - I have one - but it's a short scale and takes getting use to! I got mine on a whim but was surprised at how well it worked (it has limits - no fret vibrato, etc.)

https://www.youtube.com/user/YouRockGuitar/videos

http://yourockguitar.com/yrg-gen2

I think if you look around you can find the YRG cheaper (under 2 bills) !

It only gets more expensive from here if you go HW route (GK pickups and a GK compatible I/O device, or a Godin, Parker Fly, Roland Ready Strat, or other guitar - but you still need GK compatible device to plug them into…. )

good luck
Larry

HI guys.

a quick question:
a friend has offered me a PreSonus AudioBoxUSB unit. I can use it for a bit and then buy if it does what i want.

would this help me with my inputting with the guitar?

thanks in advance!

Hi RBS. Not sure if you wanted to use it as an audio input device, or to convert to Midi.
I think the unit will only allow you to record Audio. If you wanted to record as Midi data then something like this might be more suited.
(Do a www search for guitar midi software).
There's a lot out there, so you need to establish your requirements, then do a bit of research.
