Hi folks,
big RT request :

basic acoustic rhythm guitars that can actually be used without much editing and masking, important :
- stick to the entered chords at all cost, no embellishments, no fancy stuff, except for maybe a different chord inversion as an alternative, or maybe capo 5
- strumming patterns starting out from the most generic versions, like downstroke (DS) on each quarter, eights with alternating DS-US, generic patterns like < DS * DS * DS US DS US > and so on, simple backbeat patterns ...
- and, absolutely crucial, stops and holds that sound believable even when played alone in a guitar / vocal arrangement, no "timid ducking away" or "playing something that might or might not fit", a stop is a stop, a hold is a hold, both should use the actual chord programmed.
- same for organ tracks, especially regarding stops and holds. While the current RTs do mostly sound great (still a tiny bit too "creative" at times), the stops and holds are a joke, sorry. Dropping a lonely low root note two octaves below instead of the actual chord just doesn't cut it.
- how about some basic bass RTs, pure straight eights, shuffled eights, pure "amsterdam", or even a simple alternating bass following the "secret golden Nashville rule", i.e. fitting every imaginable chord change scenario at the expense of sounding "creative" ?

Why am I asking for this ?
I use RTs as sketchpad for writing songs, so I can experiment with varying chord sequences, song structures etc without having to rerecord real instruments for every little tryout or change - most or all instrument RTs will be replaced with song-specific real recordings later on, when the basic structure of the song is fixed.
BiaB and RTs would be ideal for that workflow, if it only had a bunch of "boring" no-nonsense rhythm tracks as described. A quick b7 in a major chord rhythm might sound cool at first glance, unless your vocal line should feature a maj7 at that point in time - get my drift ?
Sticking strictly to what's programmed would keep your artistic freedom intact, you can always insert a more specific chord where needed ...

I would certainly be willing to purchase a well done set of no-nonsense RTs along these lines !

thanks for reading,
Rhino

Rhino, now your talking. I've been wanting this in BIAB for a long time. While RT are good I don't want fancy. I want simple and boring because as you say that's what is required most of the time in a studio putting a song together. Some RT are good for a few bars then go off on there own. It is very frustrating and so far I don't see a solution

Hi Nelson,
thanks for your reply !
Personally I export my sketches to Cubase, as single tracks without FX. This gives me a lot of freedom to cut up, fade, move around and hide certain touchy areas, most of the time I export more "takes" of an instrument than I actually need so the chance of finding useful bits to transplant increases - but this takes quite some time and I'd rather not have to edit the sketches and get on with the creative part.
Call me crazy, but a badly executed stop or the occasional bum note in a rhythm section chord messes with my concentration and creativity, just like it does on stage.

cheers,
Rhino

I guess you could just as well use RealBand for edits, but Cubase has become second nature for me, and that's where the song will evolve further anyway, ymmv.

My first couple attempts at a friends house turned out...bad, but I will keep trying for some simple acoustic strumming patterns...
