Hello,
I recently drag & dropped files from a BIAB song to a Reaper session which worked well. I then discovered that the BIAB wavs did not actually copy into my Reaper session folder but were in C:\bb\dragdrop folder. When I drag & drop, I want the files to be contained in my Reaper session folder so that in the future, when I open an old Reaper session, I don't have missing files.
Is there a way to make this happen automatically? Or do I need to manually copy the files out of C:\bb\dragdrop to my Reaper session folder after using the drag&drop feature?
Thanks

Johnny what you want to do is done in Reaper. When you save in Reap look for the option to "move" or "copy" all files into the saved directory. That will do it nicely.

Hi Johnny, In addition to what Dan has said, you can also try going to "Preferences" (under OPTIONS), scroll down to "media" (#2) and then mark the check boxes I've put a red rectangle around (#3). I think that this will automatically do what you want. Regards, Noel

No, as you discivered, it doesn't work well at all. When you upgrade to the next version of BiaB, all of your files will be gone. DON'T DO THIS. I then discovered that the BIAB wavs did not actually copy into my Reaper session folder but were in C:\bb\dragdrop folder. Search back for my thread on this same issue.
This is what you (everyone) should do:
Create a Windows Explorer folder for each song. Drag your BiaB tracks to that folder. And then import them into your DAW/Sequencer.

Create a Windows Explorer folder for each song. Drag your BiaB tracks to that folder. And then import them into your DAW/Sequencer.
This is the method I use as well (with a different DAW)... If you open the target folder in Explorer, there should be a folder icon in your task bar. Go back to BIAB, click the instrument track and drag to that icon - the folder will open - drag over to file pane and "drop". Rinse, repeat...

When using BIAB Drag 'n Drop to a DAW, there are two kinds of DAWs: those that require storing the files in a holding area, and those that do not (either inherently or by setting some option like the one Noel showed).
So, just a clarification: when Firstbassman says everyone needs to create a Windows Explorer folder and drag files there, no, that does not apply to some users. It depends on which DAW you are using and how it handles this process. SONAR, for example, does not require doing this. Files are stored in the Cakewalk Projects audio folder under each named project.
Regardless of how you work, check your system periodically because the temp files are quite large for audio projects and may build up to take up a lot of disk space. Again in the case of SONAR users, you can set BIAB to delete the temp files each time you restart BIAB. A side benefit of using a DAW that does it this way is that you do not need to worry about your files when you upgrade BIAB.

OK, Matt. I’ll give you that different DAWs might handle the dragged WAV files differently. (I only use Mixcraft.)
But … BiaB handles the dragging its way (which is to store them under the \BB structure). BTW, I did find a setting to change this but it did not work (several versions ago).
And so, even if one particular sequencer doesn’t need to reach out to get a particular wav file each time a project is opened, there is a possibility that the human user might want to. And if it was created in BiaB USB hard drive ver. 2012B and one is now using Ver 2014, that wav file is long gone.
So, let me phrase it this way then …
IMHO, it is a good best practice to store all elements of projects together within their own file structure and not on the BiaB USB hard drive.
How’s that? - Mark

Yes, that advice sounds very good.
That is exactly what SONAR does, by the way. If I back up a project (song) in SONAR, I have all the files I need, including those that came over from BIAB.
I'm curious, though, if you stored a .WAV file on the supplied BIAB external drive for version 2012, why isn't it still there for you to copy it and use it now? Why would you lose anything?

I'm curious, though, if you stored a .WAV file on the supplied BIAB external drive for version 2012, why isn't it still there for you to copy it and use it now? Why would you lose anything? Not "lose" as in gone forever. "Lose" in the sense that it is not immediately available online.
Like most others, I assume, I have only one BiaB USB drive plugged in at a time. Right now, it's ver. 2014. All of the previous BiaB USB drives are in my desk drawer. If I had to get a file, could I? Yes. But is it practical? No.
Therefore, all of my user data is on my C drive, where it can be backed up.
Do all of the WAV files take up a lot of space? Yes. But hard drives are pretty large these days.

The original poster is apparently running from drive C, not the external drive.
You posted that "when you upgrade, ... all your files will be gone. " and that the problem applies to everyone. You also initially posted Drag 'n Drop "doesn't work well at all".
I'm sure you understand why I felt I had to post to stop any unnecessary worrying. No files are "gone" from using Drag 'n Drop. It does work, and it works well. In some DAWs, the audio files would not even be, shall we say, misplaced. And I don't believe it is wise to make an assumption that most users run BIAB from the external drive. We have no way of knowing this, and several configurations are possible from the installation choices.

Guys - drag and drop from BIAB to Reap works like a charm. There are just a couple items to keep in mind over in the Reaper world which has been mentioned here. Reap has to be told to move or copy the source tracks into its project folder.
I guess it comes down to workflow. I keep all my Reaper files in one place and all my BIAB files in another. When I render a BIAB track for use in my DAW, that file moves to the DAW. the BIAB files for me always then stay were there originally were. No one way to do all this.

There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
