Hi folks, big feature request :
basic acoustic rhythm guitars that can actually be used without much editing and masking, important : - stick to the entered chords at all cost, no embellishments, no fancy stuff, except for maybe a different chord inversion as an alternative, or maybe capo 5 - strumming patterns starting out from the most generic versions, like downstroke (DS) on each quarter, eights with alternating DS-US, generic patterns like < DS * DS * DS US DS US > and so on, simple backbeat patterns ... - and, absolutely crucial, stops and holds that sound believable even when played alone in a guitar / vocal arrangement, no "timid ducking away" or "playing something that might or might not fit", a stop is a stop, a hold is a hold, both should use the actual chord programmed. - same for organ tracks, especially regarding stops and holds. While the current RTs do mostly sound great (still a tiny bit too "creative" at times), the stops and holds are a joke, sorry. Dropping a lonely low root note two octaves below instead of the actual chord just doesn't cut it. - how about some basic bass RTs, pure straight eights, shuffled eights, pure "amsterdam", or even a simple alternating bass following the "secret golden Nashville rule", i.e. fitting every imaginable chord change scenario at the expense of sounding "creative" ?
Why am I asking for this ? I use RTs as sketchpad for writing songs, so I can experiment with varying chord sequences, song structures etc without having to rerecord real instruments for every little tryout or change - most or all instrument RTs will be replaced with song-specific real recordings later on, when the basic structure of the song is fixed. BiaB and RTs would be ideal for that workflow, if it only had a bunch of "boring" no-nonsense rhythm tracks as described. A quick b7 in a major chord rhythm might sound cool at first glance, unless your vocal line should feature a maj7 at that point in time - get my drift ? Sticking strictly to what's programmed would keep your artistic freedom intact, you can always insert a more specific chord where needed ...
I would certainly be willing to purchase a well done set of no-nonsense RTs along these lines !
thanks for reading, Rhino
Since this request might be interesting for future 3rd party RT builders as well, I hope you'll allow me cross-posting this in the relevant forum section, too.

Rhino, I agree with what you're saying; simple is better for a lot of things including original song creation so a BIG +1.
I also believe that as the mechanics of user track creation are learned we will see many user tracks submitted to fullfill the need for simple tracks. I can't wait for that to begin. Once I upgrade to 2014 I plan to contribute some myself; I hope you will also as the more variety there is to choose from the more unique we can make our own personal music.

Hi Jim, thanks for your support of the idea ! Like I wrote, I would certainly pay for good RTs as described. That said, I fear I'm not up to that task myself. Recording simple parts really well is an art in itself and takes a very disciplined and skilled player, you just don't want to end up with the occasional "creative bit" or badly fretted note ... I already bought 2014 but only installed the RTs so far, haven't found time to fathom out the new activation process yet (looks less than intuitive to me atm, being in Europe, so no simple phone call, and needing to authorize 2 offline PCs). Once that is done, I'll look into the RT creation process, maybe I could help out with some editing in a collaboration or whatever. Depends on how this stuff works ... cheers, Rhino

+1 from me. When setting up a Song I search long for RTs that are NOT too fancy. I KNOW we can "simplify" on some if the option is there but ya can't beat straight up playing with no frills. If I want to fancy it out afterwards - Fine, I got lots to choose from. I'd buy them! Ian

oops, sorry, seems notification doesn't work for me ... Thanks for your support, folks ! Rhino
Btw, every time I "analyze" pro arrangements, I'm amazed how basic the background tracks often are, unless they have explicit focus. There is a reason for this.

I play solo guitar and when you pull the lead guitar out of many arrangements, what is left is often quite basic. Its the players job, or singers, to fill it out IMO. Ian

Very basic guitar patterns is something I'd like to have too (both strumming and plucking). I'd rather have something that works in the background and add to it than the other way around.
