You just have to be savvy enough to understand that if you unplug all the other peripherals, you should remove the adaptor so that the computer is grounded via its power plug again. You are a wealth of knowledge about these things my friend. For a layman this point is very tricky but I get it. I had no idea that surge protectors can "go bad" so to speak. I think I've got a few around here that are ten years old! That Ratshack one I know is at least four or five. I'm going to pick up several new ones right now. Bob
