I mixed down two songs in RealBand a couple of days ago and saved them to wav files; I next opened up the wave file for each song, separately of course, and mastered the songs using FXs in the Output Insert 1 FX section of the RB mixer. I saved the songs when done mastering as wav files.

Today I opened up one of the mastered songs; entering the mixer view, opened up the FX section and discovered no FXs in the Output Insert 1 section - the four FXs I'd used to master the songs were gone - the four slots read "None".

Thinking I might have not saved the song correctly, I opened up the other song and discovered the save thing - not FXs in the Output Insert 1 section (I'd used the save four FX's as I'd used on the previous song).

I consulted the RB Manual, but found nothing pertaining to this situation.

Did I overlook something when I saved? What happened to my FXs? As always, I appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks,
Ray

Using newest BIAB/RB Everything PAK versions with all the latest updates. Windows7; plenty of RAM; etc.

Hi Ray.

When you say you saved the songs as wav files, did you also save the RB file as a SEQ file. This is the file which preserves the mixer settings.

Assuming that you did this, then go to Preferences - File and make sure you have the boxes checked for Load and Save mixer settings with SEQ files.

I've tried to duplicate your problem, but on my system it saves the effects every time.

I also suspect the file was not saved as a .seq file .. which is required to retain the effects settings.

When you re-open the file, are you opening a .wav file, or a .seq file?
If you are opening a wav file it is user error. Look for a seq file.

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Thank you for the guidance. I did not save the file as a .seq file but only as a .wav file, so I will do both in the future.

But just for clarification sake: even though the .wav file doesn't save the FXs and settings chosen, can I assume that the effects of the FXs on the tracks during the mastering process in RB are printed with/to the files? When I listen to the .wav file in a player, it sounds like they've been applied. Hate to have done all that work for nothing!

Thanks again,
Ray

Hi SR

It's very likely that the effects were applied to the Wav files.

However, it's reasonably probable that the FX settings you used are not saved anywhere, as these would have been saved in a .SEQ file, as the others have already mentioned.

The WAV files are output audio only, such as you would use to burn to a CD etc. They don't contain all of the internal settings that RB uses.

After getting all the adjustments, save the RB files as a .SEQ file, this saves all of your settings also, provided you followed ROG's advice.

Thanks, VideoTrack, I appreciate your knowledgeable comments.

I will add a "save .seq file" step for my master tracks to my workflow from now on. I'll start thinking of a .wav master as a one-time picture of a song based on the .seq master.

This will save me time and trouble down the road if and when I want to re-master any of my tunes at a later date.

Regards and best wishes to all for your comments and help,
Ray
