If you've got a cellphone, why not use it instead of a standalone recorder?
Even the most basic phones today include a recorder.
You've probably got it in your pocket if you're out and about!
Why not use it instead of buying something else that does the same damn thing?
Beats me. In my case it was simple. I do not own a cell phone! But you are correct in that if you have a cell phone why not use it.
