whenever working with a song and i put the Mac to "sleep" and when i come back, "wake" the Mack, i see my G B project is still on the screen. whenever i try to playback my song there is no sound coming from my speakers or phones. i can see the sound "jumping" in my master track but i can't hear anything. i've checked all my config settings (drivers, input, output etc) and nothing seems to have changed . i also use Reaper as a DAW and see the same prob with it. the ONLY way i've found to get my sound back is to reboot the Mac, open Reaper (or G B), load my project and "wah lah" i've got music again. i have Reaper ver 4.581 and GarageBand 'll (ver 6.0.5 [428.5] ) and the Mac is ver
10.9.1 [ maverick]

Anyone know what's going on here - would sure app a reply if you do.

Just a thought here.

After waking your Mac from sleep one of those two audio applications may have changed your computer's audio settings to a sample rate that is too high for GarageBand and/or Reaper to use. Your system alert sounds and iTunes may still work but other applications may have no sound. Have you tried to play iTunes ?

Now, I don't know which of those two applications would have changed your sample rate settings if in fact the sample rates were changed.

Try this: Open /Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup and check that your output settings are 44100.0 Hz. or even reset the output settings to 441000. Hz. Now try playing GarageBand or Reaper to hear the audio playback.

Does this problem occur in other audio applications you may have ?

Also what happens if you quit those applications and re-launch them ?

Personally I have found that allowing my computer to sleep has been a huge pain in the studio. However that is my personal choice.

You are not alone, 10.9.1 has caused a lot of audio problems for a lot of folks.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5482053?tstart=0

I've heard from some developer friends who are on the 10.9.2 beta test group that the next update from Apple fixes a lot of audio woes, including a bunch of USB audio things that Mavericks (10.9 and 10.9.1) broke.

Just be patient 10.9.2 is due to hit any day now, and it should fix this problem along with a bunch of others.

Hopefully this helps.

Hi,
I had the same sound problems after upgrading my macbook air to mavericks 10.9.1 Initially I thought it was BB playing up but after much trial and error and internet surfing found out the problem was mavericks. The apple people could not guarantee an early fix so I got them to roll back to mountain lion OS X 10.8.5, The sound works OK again with no problems. ( I had to re-install everything - a lot of work!) Cheers ieh
