Wow up to my fourth song with this one. When I was a kiddy, when my mother would ask my dad to do something, like fix a shelf, he would always say "its on my list" meaning it will get done but not necessarily today. This got me thinking about long term relationships and the fact that after a while you start taking your partner for granted, whilst always knowing that you should be perhaps trying a bit harder, until, one day, its too late. So this song is about that. It was done with BIAB and Reaper and makes use of the hall string quartet and a cello, again the first time I have tried either of those. Hope you like it. Criticism and/or lavish praise always welcome. I am working on a video to go with it which should be ready in a couple of days. Thanks you so much for listening it means a lot. On my List

Steve,
Great idea for a song. "..where I should have put flowers" - great line!
Nice instrumentation for this. The strings seem to have a bit of wobble to them like they were stretch a little too far (tempo) but not a big deal - only really noticeable during the "solo" part. The vocal drops in a couple places making it difficult to catch a couple of words.
A good mix on the instruments. Drums bass and guitar sit nicely...

Hi Steve I do hope that saying "I Love You" to my wife every day never appears on My List of things to do. I guess we all take one another for granted sometimes and this song is a good Wake Up Call. Nice choice of RTs - they gelled well together. Whose is the other (female) voice? Maybe you could have made more us of her - musically speaking of course. cheers ian

As always thanks for the encouragement and advice, I will take it all on board, here are the lyrics if anyone want to see them.
On My List
I've been sitting on the stairs For the last few hours Staring at the table where I should have put flowers Should have locked the door To stop you walking through
All the things I should have said and done Without you I’m less than one I should have held you close And told you I need you
It was on my list of things On my list of things On my list of things to do
Not every day was good for us But there was good in everyday I close my eyes to see you Before you fade away
I got stuck in the habit of living When really I should have been thinking Saying sorry It was over due All the chances that we missed Like when we fought we should have kissed I should have whispered in you heart I love you It was on my list of things It was on my list of things It was on my list of things to do
Not every day was good for us But there was good in everyday I close my eyes to see you Before you fade away
I've been sitting on the stairs For the last few hours Staring at the table where I should have put flowers Should have locked the door To stop you walking through It was on my list of things It was on my list of things It was on my list of things to do

Steve, Nice song. Like Floyd pointed out, the strings are stretched just a tad too much, but still a nice effort nonetheless. Sad, but thought provoking lyrics. I like it. Steve (Young)

Steve,
There are some good songs that I have missed in the past week or so.
I like the video, it fits perfectly with the song.
Very nice

Steve, I like the idea for this. Come to think of it it might have been on my list to write a song along these lines. Well written and a good mix. I enjoyed it.

Not every day was good for us But there was good in everyday
Great line, and certainly not the only one in this gem!! Very cool!! Really love the way the arrangement works. I would lighten up a bit on the reverb on the vocal, but overall EXCELLENT!! Take care. Greg

Steve, Nice song. Like Floyd pointed out, the strings are stretched just a tad too much, but still a nice effort nonetheless. Sad, but thought provoking lyrics. I like it. Steve (Young) I agree with Floyd and Steve. This song is too good to have even one bad track in it and IMHO those strings are the bad track. Replacing them would take this one over the top.

Thanks for the input Mario, I agree that the strings are perhaps over their limit. However I was keen to include them on a song. As to the song being "too good" whilst I am truly flattered, I am new (started writing this last Christmas) to this song writing thing and to be honest treat them as throwaways. Sure I have a little website and a facebook page but really it's just for vanity. So I agree the song may well be better without the strings but I will take that very good advice together with all the other sage words and use them on the next song. Again many thanks
