Some things to try:

(1) Turn on the Patch Cache option in the MIDI OUT dialog (or Cache Patches Now from the Action Menu)

(2) Make sure General MIDI is selected in the Patch Name dialog

(3) Send a "GM Mode ON Message" from the "Mode On Messages" option on the Action Menu

I don't have CoolSoft active at the moment and I don't remember what options you can set for it (accessible from the SysTray/TaskBar icon that appears when it is active).

Here's a wierd trick you can try: Load the MIDI file into SysFont and see if it does the same thing. If it plays properly in SysFont, then resave the file from SysFont. Then reload it into PowerTracks. I have come to appreciate the processing and saving routines within SysFont as having a healing effect on unhealthy MIDI files.

This is an important question to help you: What is the source of your MIDI files? Are they commercial? Free internet files? Homemade? By you? A friend? From Band-In-A-Box or RealBand? Or another DAW?
