As I understand it.... I might be wrong , but I think this is right...

when you purchase the upgrade, it is a full version of the program. It can be installed without issues.

During the install, if it "see's" another, previous version, it overwrites the files it needs to overwrite to do the upgrade from the old to the new.

Like I said, that's how I understand it.
