This song has a somewhat unusual structure. there's only one actual verse and the pre-chorus is sung twice, as is the chorus. But, it seems to work, at least fro my ears. interested in hearing what you folks think.

It's Smooth R&B again and has, perhaps, a bit of an Al Green feel to it. We used BIAB 2011.5. Thanks in advance!

Bring Your Love To Me

(v1)
You've been the one for me, since I can't remember
You ought to know by now, it's time for sweet surrender
Baby you turn me on, with your voice so strong but tender
So bring yourself over here, let's light these embers

Pre-Chorus
No need to fret it, you won' regret it
I'll make you thankful in every way
No need to worry, oh Baby hurry
Don't make me wait another day

CHORUS
Bring your love to me, give me all you have
Can't you see I need you so much
Bring your love to me, don’t hesitate one minute
I hunger for your lover's touch
I've spent a lifetime waiting for you Baby
Don't leave me hanging on, tell me yes don't tell me maybe
Our time is now, don't wait for tomorrow
Bring your love to me, don't leave me in sorrow

INSTRUMENTAL

Pre-Chorus
No need to fret it, you won' regret it
I'll make you thankful in every way
No need to worry, oh Baby hurry
Don't make me wait another day

CHORUS
Bring your love to me, give me all you have
Can't you see I need you so much
Bring your love to me, right now this minute
I hunger for your lover's touch
I've spent a lifetime waiting for you Baby
Don't leave me hanging on, tell me yes don't tell me maybe
Our time is now, don't wait until tomorrow
Bring your love to me, don't leave me in sorrow

Hi Al. I find this one very smooth and perfectly enjoyable as is but would like to have seen the song develop a little more. The style certainly suits your voice. Cheers.

Alan,

A cool, smooth sound on this. Love when that sax comes in. I've always liked that combination of instruments - e piano, sax, pad (though I've never used it myself).

You did a good job on this. How about a version with Di singing it? It would be very effective as a female song - and I would think Di would be just the one to pull it off...

Classy.

I think the structure is fine, unique is good. Dynamically, I think it could have...more. Maybe Di singing, as Floyd suggested?

Ultra smooth and yet again you get that sax going.....perfectly. You definitely fill a void here with your style. Did I say "smoooooth?"

Al,
Very nice song. I've been trying to write songs with a prechorus but haven't made one work yet. This works well. Thanks for the example and sharing your music.

Thanks to everyone whom we not yet responded to. We've been away from the site for almost 2 weeks. Lots of important things going on plus not feeling real good lately.

As far as Di singing this...I originally wrote it for her to sing, but she's had a medical issue that has prevented her from singing for a while. She did a track on a karaoke site yesterday just to test out her vocals. Heck, at her worst she's still fantastic! When she's feeling up to it, I'll ask her to put her vocal to this. Her voice is dynamic where mine is decent and adequate but not exceptional.

Also, in case anyone is wondering, I don't take it personal about suggesting she could add more dynamics to this with her vocals. I do know my limitations!!!

Thanks again to everyone. Will get caught up on listens as we can...3 or 4 a day until we're up to snuff! Still a lot going on in our real lives!

Best to all of you...

Al & Di

Hi Al,

I'm late popping into the thread but that didn't stop me really enjoying the journey.

When I started your song playing, I had just opened a Mars bar. I don't know if you have them in the US so I've included a picture. Advertising describes this sweet as "soft nougat & creamy caramel covered in thick milk chocolate" - very unhealthy but mighty tasty smile

Anyway, right at this minute, I'm sitting here looking at my Mars bar, with its end bitten off, and thinking that the similarities between your music and what I'm holding in my hand are startling!

As "Bring Your Love to Me" flowed, it was like caramel to my ears – sweet, smooth and delicious. Equally tasty was the nougat accompaniment supporting, tantalising and complimenting the aural indulgence. And if that wasn't enough, all this was perfectly shaped and held together by a chocolaty smooth arrangement and production.

Very tasty songwriting!

All the best,
Noel

P.S. I've been slowly working my way through Pat Pattison's book, "Songwriting without Boundaries". The section I'm on at the moment is all about creating extended metaphors. I thought I'd use this opportunity to practice smile

Spacedog,

In relation to your comment ...

Quote:
I've been trying to write songs with a prechorus but haven't made one work yet.

I personally find that it's more productive for me to use what people call a 'prechorus' as a 'transitional bridge' (this is Pat Pattison's concept). As a bridge, it links the verse to the chorus when the verse does not quite have enough content to establish the chorus properly.

Quote:
For example, consider the following verse/chorus ...

Verse
Red, yellow, green, blue,
This perfect rainbow reminds me of you
Standing here getting soaking wet,
I know I'll never forget
I'll never forget

Chorus
I can see sunshine on the horizon
Clouds are drifting away
Sunshine on the horizon
Weaving a whole new day

While the above kind of works, I find myself thinking that I might be able to strengthen the verse's relationship to the chorus by adding a transitional bridge (maybe two or three lines will do the job).

What about ...

Quote:
Verse
Red, yellow, green, blue,
This perfect rainbow reminds me of you
Standing here getting soaking wet,
I know I'll never forget
I'll never forget
You showed me how to get the most out of life
You showed me the road to travel so I could survive

Chorus
I can see sunshine on the horizon
Clouds are drifting away
Sunshine on the horizon
Weaving a whole new day

Lyrically, it's still got a way to go but to my ears, the transitional bridge has given whole new meaning to the chorus. It's also helped to solidify the verse/chorus relationship. In addition, this bridge has got me thinking about many more lyric possibilities for a second verse. One of these possibilities could be to write about the past. The same transitional bridge could then possibly be used at the end of verse 2.

One other thing to note is that I've changed the poetic meter of the transitional bridge. This helps define it as a new section and, because I've lengthened the bridge's lines, it gives a feeling of lyric deceleration. This will help to make the chorus feel like it 'lifts' because it will seem to accelerate after the transitional bridge.

Hope these thoughts are useful!
Noel

Hi Noel...

Yes, we have Mars bars here in the States. I'm a Payday guy, myself!

Your metaphoric reference was probably the best we ever received about our music...thank you for the very kind analogy!

We're delighted you enjoyed it and thank you for letting for us know. We always appreciate your perspective...you are a very knowledgeable and accomplished music professional...I just fly by the seat of my pants!

Again, thank you very much. Wishing you a great Monday...
