Dan, This is so that it is fully portable You can truly run it from a jump drive without needing to mess with the registry.

I've done this with Reaper. I have it installed a jump drive with it on it in my Samson USB microphone bag. I used it just once when at last minute before leaving on a trip, I decided to toss in the mic into my suitcase. I was able to record a demo lyric and percussion track (smack on pillows and pizza box) using Reaper on the jump drive, my work laptop, and that Samson mic (which has it's own headphone output).

Now I just use Garageband on my iPhone - much more capable in a much smaller package!
