Hi Folks, trying to get a bit more into depth with BIAB. I'm trying to add a RT solo to the middle chorus of a 3 chorus song using style _JWALTZP.STY, a jazz waltz. When I hit the Soloist button, I have the system setup to suggest the best RT's on the Soloist track. Once I pick one of one of the suggested RT's and hit generate, the selected soloist plays on all three choruses.
I then hit the soloist button again and this time select "Open the Soloist Dialog". On the left side side, it shows the soloist selected from above and on the right side under "Solo which Chorus", I select Yes, solo the middle chorus and then check "Mute Melody in Middle". When I hit OK, the selected RT in the Soloist track changes from green to yellow.
Why does this happen? Does the color change mean that I've lost the RT and the track has converted to midi?
Appreciate any insight.
Jeff

Green to yellow, yes you are changing to midi.
Forget all the soloist stuff. This was best used for midi in the early days. Instead just use the F5 to insert a RT to play when you want it to.

In a similar vein I want to achieve the following:
Chorus one - melody, no solo - easy Chorus two - solo Chorus three - solo round melody
In the past I have used the soloist button and used the custom button to generate solos where I want them, but I can't get the combination above of different solo types in different choruses.
I'm intrigued by the F5 add a RT comment - don't quite see how that works yet? Add a soloist RT to the soloist track or e.g. to the strings track and then turn it on and off as desired in F5 bar settings? I can see that you can add a RT via F5 but I don't see how to change the soloing style - e.g. from full solo to solo round melody or swap 4s????

I was a bit confused by the F5 a first too. I thought that you had to use a different instance of F5 for each chorus. By that I mean, bring up the F5 window for each chorus and setting the parameters. By playing with it a bit, I've found that by bringing up F5 once, you can make changes to each chorus and when you close it, it will save the info for all choruses. Noticed that when you make a change to a chorus that there is an asterisk next to the track that you changed in the pull-down menu that lists all the choruses, that is in the "Settings apply to chorus #" pull-down.
You're question about how to change the solo, that is "solo around the melody" is a good one. But, I'm not sure that could be done with a RT, as the RT's are audio and I don't think that they can be changed. Using the Soloist button, you may be able to change a midi soloist though.
I'm sure some of the Forum experts will chime in to confirm this.

Hi Parmstro, In relation to the third option, soloist around melody, Soloist Realtracks do not do this. I have found that Realtracks that have a "background" description usually do the job ok. (See image below.) These "background" Realtracks are not 'around the melody' as such. Because they have significantly less melody movement than the Soloist Realtracks, though, they often act well as fill-in melodies. Regards, Noel P.S. The 'around the melody' Soloist option that you refer to is a midi track option.

Jeff
Thanks - I had discovered the different choruses bit in F5 - very useful.
Noel - makes sense. Normally I am lucky enough to play with a live saxophonist, but he's on holiday for my next gig (not allowed!!!!) so am working out how to get as close to what he normally plays as possible! I will try out the background ones, sounds a good idea.
Cheers Peter
