Jeff,

What vsti are you trying to use?

Have you checked your settings in preferences for audio and midi?

When you click on the change vsti dropdown does your vsti show up?

If you want a different vsti on each instrument track, did you choose that option for each one?

Is the drum track you are hearing midi or a real track?

Are you using the same channel as the BIAB instrument does for each vsti instrument - that helped mine.

I'm no expert and use vsti in RB but that info can help the BIAB folks who are when they chime in to help you. smile

Jeff,
When you're creating a style, it's best to use one synth, whether a plug in, or a hardware synth. While you may never give the style to anyone else, it will still simplify things for you while you're creating the style. However, if you WERE to share it, there's a possibility that the people you share it with may not have the same software synths or libraries that you do, so they wouldn't be able to hear it the same way you do.

Once you are done creating the style, and you wish to actually use it, then you can load the synths for each part in the Mixer/Plugins/Piano/Patches window.

So, to CREATE the style, use a General MIDI patches from ONE synth, and then when you go to play and use the style, change the sounds then.

Thanks For the replies Josie & Gary:)
I will check those items... actually it is sort of important for me to be able to create the styles using the vstis...this is synthesizer music and there is a lot of live stuff being done on the synths. these are from the superwave synth collection. I will keep exploring it:) thanks again:)

Jeff,
I understand the requirement for you to have VSTis as your instruments in your final form. However, when you are CREATING the style, using a General MIDI sound bank is far easier than trying to load multiple VSTis and try to use those.

Remember, when you are creating your style, it's only MIDI data, there is no sound. So, what does it matter what synth you use?

I DO understand that your finished product will use this Superwave collection, that's fine. You haven't gotten to that point yet.

Until you get the style completely finished, use a General MIDI synth, and one output. When you get done, and you want to test the style, THEN you can plug in your VSTis and listen to them. Let's get the basics of the style done FIRST, and then plug in the sounds you want. In other words, don't put the cart in front of the horse, you won't go anywhere and it just irritates the horse.

Thanks Gary:)
Do you know where I can find a list of the channels/parts for styles or are they all different? I think I should first try re-assigning some of my old styles using the new synths.

In Preferences, I believe there's a tab called "Channels" which will allow you to assign parts to specific channels.

Mine are set up as:
Bass, Channel nine
Drums, Channel 10,
Piano, Channel 11,
Guitar, Channel 12,
Strings, Channel 13

Melody, Channel 1, Soloist, Channel 5.

Hope that helps.

Gary
