I know this is real basic stuff, but I'm a real basic kindah guy.

Try as I might, I can't get the "change style at any bar" function to work. I select a bar, pull down to the "change style at any bar" menu item, get the "Choose Style Change" box, I select my new style to start at the selected bar... it shows in the box... and when I go to play back--there is no change in styles throughout the song.

What am I missing? Can someone explain this using simple language--small words, please? ;D

There are two ways, actually.
    1. At the point you want a style change press F-5 and select a new style

    2. A purple part marker will let you change to a different style part and will play until you change the part marker back to white/Blue/Green
Hope that works for you.

mickeyshout, are you using Real Tracks, or MIDI styles?

If you use MIDI styles, then F5 works (or, right-click on the bar and select Bar Settings, then choose the new style).

If you use a Real Track, you are in a sense choosing the style when you choose the Real Instrument. You choose a style, tempo, and an instrument you want. It is then used on that track for the whole song, and will not be affected by any F5 choices. In fact, if you use all Real Tracks, the choice of MIDI style makes no difference.

You could use RealBand to change Real Track styles within a song.

mickeyshout:

Again, this only works with MIDI styles.
Make sure that after you change the style (you said "when I go to play back") that you actually hit the green "Play" button so that BIAB regenerates the song. If you just double click on a bar to start playback, it won't have a chance to change to your new style.

Good luck!

Thank you, Lloyd and Matt! Seems I was doing everything right, but did not realize I wouldn't get any change with Real Tracks. Too bad, I hate the sound of most of the MIDI styles. Can you tell me exactly how I would change styles in RealBand? I have it, got it as part of the package, but have never used it. Are the commands in this respect essentially the same?

As far as I know, you can't change RealStyles in BIAB.
Mac has indicated that it can be done in RealBand although I haven't tried that yet.

I suppose as a workaround, you could pick one RealStyle in BIAB and generate the song, then export that as a wave file, then pick another style and do the same thing.

Import each into RealBand or PTPA and "cut and paste" to suit.

Good luck!
