Hi,

You could try installing K-Lite from

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_pack.htm

I use this and find it invaluable. It's free. Just take care to uncheck the piggy-back software that often seems to come with freeware these days.

Another alternative to try would be VLC player.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html

I find this a great program and it will play pretty much all audio and video formats.

Regards,
Noel

I don't understand the question. BIAB plays BIAB files. Are you asking about something else? Are you saying BIAB gives you an error message about a missing .DLL?

Hi again, MMgWjo.

What are you trying to accomplish? If you can explain that in more detail, we'll be able to help.

Kind regards,
Noel

BiaB uses WMA files for realtracks/realdrums .. so yes a codec is required.

However wmvcore would seem to be a video codec to me .. could be wrong. Maybe it includes the audio codec also.

This link will explain why you are missing it -

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953693

There are MS codec installs available here but will require some knowledge and research -

I don't get the question either. Any modern Windows PC has everything you need for running Biab. Give us the details of your computer as in OS, CPU, Ram, hard drives, etc.

Win7 -N
No Media Player gets installed with this OS.
He said this in OP.
Win8 -N doesn't either. He needs to either install a codec or install WinMediaPlayer (which he seems hesitant to do).

thanks @rharv, that's exactly the issue.

i installed the microsoft windows media player (ugh!) and BiaB now starts fine.

installing the k-lite codec pack didn't solve the issue, though having that codec installed is probably good idea for different streams.

i bought Win7-N just so i wouldn't have windows media player on my computer. ;-) i prefer to use daum potplayer (a fork from kmplayer) and not WMP.

i actually think i ran into this issue on another machine. so when i installed BiaB on this new machine this issue crept up again. my mem is aging.

its working now. thanks all

Hmmm, I have Win 7 64 Ultimate and everything was there the first time I turned it on. Biab was the first music program I ran and it was perfect. Maybe other versions don't automatically install WMP? But if you're right and it no longer automatically installs, then the first thing I would do is install it because I know that it has all the codecs you need. Seriously as soon as you realized that's what was missing it would have taken less time to install it than messing around in this forum.

If someone doesn't want the basic MS stuff, fine but imho it hurts you in the long run, it sure doesn't hurt anything to have WMP. I also use Media Player Classic and VLC. No conflicts at all.

I also use Windows Media Center to run my home theater system including using an HD Prime 3 tuner cablecard USB box through FIOS with a 25" HDMI cable going to my 55" big screen in the living room. I'm writing this on it now. I hardly use my 32" in the bedroom any more. With all this stuff, no conflicts at all, Biab runs fine.

I don't know for sure of course but I think most of the weird problems people have with Biab is because they want to get cute with their systems and do things "their way". Just let Windows do it's thing and don't worry about it.

A system that came with Win -N didn't have WMP to begin with.
He had to add it; nothing to do with doing it his way .. except he really didn't want the WMP (and probably the extra 100 meg of disk space it takes and having to reset all settings for default player, and .. etc)

Unfortunately it is required for WMA files, either that or a pretty intimidating codec install from MS (that is also pretty old).

Believe it or not; WMP is not part of the 'basic MS stuff' by their own definition apparently. Their minimal OS does not include it. Even in Win8 -N
