Well - I suppose picking the year 1995 was arbitrary on my part, but I recently realized that my favorite bands and musicians all began their 'big hits' in the 60's and 70's - some in the 80's, and I'd like to expand my listening horizons.

Since this group has the best taste in music than any on the internet, thought I would tap you guys and gals for some of your more recent discoveries.

Thanks in advance,
Joe V .

Don't know what kind of music (genre) you like, but I'd highly recommend the Avett Brothers.

John Mayer is one. He tuned a lot of young folks into guys like SRV and Albert King. Of course, I think his biggest strength is playing the electric guitar. Acoustic versions of his songs take away the effect he has when using the electric.

Just checked both of these suggestion out - like them both, never heard of Ayer brothers - but nice songs, overall band sound and musicianship. John Mayer I heard of, but never gave a fair chance - enjoying his stuff more too. Ah, the power of suggestion or recommendation from a respected source : )

I like this stuff myself
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZU4jCSkVJ_A&index=1&list=PL2Ctahnvt0gA8bFlWvcpMuaisiw9DyQXI
Lots of good stuff in the first 8 or 9 songs.
Most live versions of these songs done by this band are also usually quite impressive.

Dangit; just noticed copyright was '94 for this (just before your criteria).
However it wasn't really successful until '95 anyway ..

I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

That is...interesting. Bluegrass rap. I'm not sure if I like it or not but it has me thinking.

Thanks for posting this.

For country I like the (not played to death on the radio) album cuts by "Lady Antebellum" and "Little Big Town". Both groups have fantastic harmonies, write some of their material and generally select good songs to record. I generally either really like, or really hate, Miranda Lambert recordings. Dierks Bently is another in the really like or hate category.

I recently "discovered" the group MINGO FISHTRAP. They are an eight piece rock, soul and funk group based in Austin, TX. Influences include Otis Redding,James Brown, Stax, Muscle Shoals, Tower Of Power and Motown. Easy to find examples of their work on YouTube, iTunes or Spotify.
