In PowerTracks (I'm using version 12), highlight the track with the melody on it. Then in the toolbar, click on the button that looks like a single 8th note to bring up the notation window. Work you way to the first note of the melody, then click on the "L" button (for Lyrics) on the notation window toolbar. That will bring up a little box to type lyrics into. Type the single-syllabic word or syllable of a multi-syllabic word into the box and press ENTER. That will move to the next note and you will hear each note play and can continue entering lyrics.

For multi-syllabic words, type a hyphen after the first syllable to tie it to the rest of the word. That way, when just print out the lyrics, or use the big lyrics window, PTPA will know it's all part of the same word. For example,

Hel- lo
x x

I hope that made sense.
