I spent about 2hrs putting vocals on a song in RB and STUPID ME when i went to save it I didn't do save as a RB SEQ file , I just saved it as biab file and my heart sank as i read the pretty yellow window that said audio that you recorded will not be saved 5 vocal tracks GONE A lesson Learned for sure . Have any of you done this?
Love getting back into biab in 2024

Every one of us who has been recording for any length of time. Sounds like a good place for a confirmatory dialogue, i.e., "Are you sure?"

OMG, 5 recorded audio tracks all lost due to not saving a file!! I can honestly say I have never done that. Now I am asking myself, would Reaper even have allowed that? Seems my DAW always creates saved files which can be recovered even if I don't. Oh, by the way, sorry for your loss. <<just confirmed, Reaper has an "auto save" feature so no recorded content is ever lost. This now make me think. I believe RB also has this "auto save" feature. If it was turned on perhaps your files are actually there somewhere.>>

Me again, sorry but I really do feel your pain with losing even a single take, much less five of them. Did I read this right, did this message appear AFTER you had had a chance to fix it??

Yieps, I seem to be the only one upset about this! I know, I do need to get a life.
But, really how could this happen, doesn’t RB have "non-destructive" editing? And if you want to literally delete a recorded track you have to manually do that, like in any pro workstation. Otherwise, the track is always there. Heck Reaper even keep tracks you have deleted, until you tell it “yes, I want you to now remove the track from my HD”. Has this been missed in RB.
And does a warning message come up only after you have lost the track not before?
I know some of you guys swear by RB, but really this kind of happening ain’t supposed to happen.
You may know I am not a RB guy, but if my DAW did this to me I would be looking for anther DAW.
OK, I got that off my chest, I feel better now.

It says it after i click the save button and i am not sure if i can stop after i press it. It says it in the instructions i Just Friking wiffed bad . I don't believe this was the case with 2012. I usually just use RB to create all my RT and then do all my vocals and bass in Powertrack Pro , This time i got caught up what i was doing and didn't change programs once i started overdubbling. I don't understand why BB songs and RB songs aren't same type of file(seq).

I didn't do save as a RB SEQ file , I just saved it as biab file yes others have instead of a yellow window warning saying "audio that you recorded will not be saved" it should a message box with the same msg + "use save as a seq file" and OK cancel buttons better yet give the user the save as a seq file sq option there best practice tip immediately after importing the biab file save as a seq file you are warned about loosing changes when changes are made to a seq file if you exit without saving

Hi JCJazz I've just tried to re-create you situation. I opened an .SEQ file that contained many audio files. I then saved it as a BIAB .MGU file. The following message came up. I read the above prompt as a reminder to save the file as .SEQ before quitting Realband. After saving as .MGU, all my audio files were still present in Realband even though the file had been saved as a BIAB file. Nothing was lost. I still had the opportunity to save all audio as an .SEQ file-type before exiting Realband. If, however, Realband is quit before the file is saved as .SEQ, then audio will be lost. Hope this clarifies things a bit more. Regards, Noel

Yeah, because it didn't save doesn't mean they were gone, it means you are saving in the wrong format. Unless you closed out the project you still had the opportunity to save in another format.
Also, until you close, all audio work is still in the temp aduio directory as chunks of audio. Every take is there .. that's how the undo function works!
I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome Make your sound your own!

I don't know if this happened, but you don't always get a chance to fix it. If instead of explicitly saving first you just closed RealBand (knowing that you will be prompted to save any changes you made), then it would ask you to save your work and then once you do, it will close the program. If you saved as the wrong format, then those tracks would be gone.
I think that the default for RealBand should always be a SEQ file. Once there, you can save to your heart's content to any of the other formats, but the first save ought to be a SEQ (whether the source file originally loaded was MIDI, audio, BIAB, or whatever).
And yes, this has happened to me before, as well.

I have RB 2014 and under the file tab, there is a menu option to 'Open backup file'. There are multiple versions of all my recent projects located in this folder. You may get lucky.

Lessons learned the hard way tend to stick with you.
I've had similar things happen through the years....and it all comes back to one thing......
Save your work.
And most importantly, save it often.
I now have a habit of hitting the SAVE button after every single major edit or after working the verse or chorus of the song..... either tracking and punching or some other type of editing.
Save it if you wouldn't want to have to go back and redo it.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.
