Hi. I'm pretty green with BIAB. Assistance appreciated.
I'm trying to enter a song from sheet music for personal use. It starts with a pickup measure of three eighth notes, each with a fermata. I've figured out that BIAB doesn't really do that, but I might be able to fake it by making each pickup note a full measure, then adjusting the tempo of those measures as needed. I'm trying to make that work.
Any other good ideas?
So far, the very slow tempos for the pickup notes sound ridiculous with the style I have chosen for the song as a whole. Maybe I can choose a style consisting only of one chord at the beginning of each measure. Does such a style exist? Is it possible to modify an existing style to play that way in these measures/
Alternate suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Poor Butterfly.
Sarah Vaughan OWNS this song. Composed in 1916 for a Broadway review, long forgotten. Madam Butterfly was a very popular opera at the time. The melody borrows a lick from the opera. The song was rediscovered in the late 1940s and early 1950s, became a jazz standard, dozens of artists recorded it. Interesting chords, interesting melody, great lyrics.

If each pickup note is a fermata, I would think that you can do what you tried to do (by using one bar per note), but also using the "hold" feature on each of those three notes (and associated chords), and then coming in a tempo in the 4th bar.
You can look up shots and holds in the help menu for how to do this.

IMO a fermata can be very subtle. If you have a very keen musical ear, I image you can hear it and it can make a big difference. But to the average listener it may not always even be noticed.
This is actually an important point for using BIAB. Many songs can be quickly entered into BIAB and if you are not "picky", they will play just fine. But if you have a strong musical preference and simply NEED to have that formata, or NEED to have that specific lick or repeated motif or drum groove or you NEED to hear the b13th of the dominate chord at that specific upbeat, then you may be disappointed by BIAB. We have seen this here in the forum many times for newbees.
You have to be flexible and imaginative to get the most out of BIAB which is really about having fun with the music.

To be flexible, I have to know what BIAB can & can't do. Still figuring that out. My original question -- Is there a style that just plays one chord on the first beat of each measure? Artie

Artie Go back to what John suggested. On the first beat of each measure hit Alt F5. Then place a "Hold" on the chord in the measure. It will look like this with the three dots following the first chord. as "C... / / / ". See if that does it for you.
