I would really like a way to do noise removal on RealBand audio tracks like you can with Audacity. Actually, it'd be great if one could use the Audacity NR on RealBand tracks! The one in Audacity is Noise Removal by Dominic Mazzoni. Its not a VST plug-in (dll) so you couldn't add it in that way. All I know is it works really well & there are no other good NRs (free at least).

I'm getting noise (hiss) when I rec from a mic on RealBand tracks so if I could get rid of that it'd be really great. Please help if you can.

I'm not talking about the PG Dynamics Expander/Compressor or the PG Vinyl Tool's DeNoise 'function'. More of a third party type thing. Although if someone knows how I can get really good results with these PG plug-ins, please let me know.

Brad, any noise gate should do the job for you. You may have to play around with the settings but is should work. If you google/bing free vst noise gate you will find a lot of them. I have no experience with them but I have used noise gates in Amplitude when using distortion. Some of them produce a loud hiss when you are not playing.

I agree that Audacity noise removal is one of the best!

Good luck

I'd work on getting rid of whatever is causing the hiss in the first place.

May just be the way you have things set up.

Yeah, I'm with rharv on this one.

Don't try to "fix it in the mix" .... it's better to find the source of that hiss and get it out of the signal path altogether.

In a properly set up mic path, there should not be any noticeable hiss. Hiss indicates somethings not right. Usually, if I try really hard..... by turning up the mic gain as far as it will go, I can get some low level hiss. That's the noise that exists in all electronic audio circuits. But with modern mic circuits, that noise floor should be well below the threshold of hearing.

For example in my studio, with my Rode condenser plugged in and set to a nice level that picks up a pin drop, there's no noise in the form of hiss, or anything audible.

Brad...I'd be curious to know the details of your setup. What is the mic, dynamic or condenser or USB, pre-amp or not, what you have other than that in the chain even inside the software? .....as all that matters and makes a difference.

Brad,

It would be possible to export the track from RB, load it into Audacity, remove the hiss, save a new track and load it back into RB. It sounds complicated but it's pretty straightforward.

I always export my recorded audio to Goldwave and remove unwanted noise there. Once that's done, I take it back to my DAW.

Regards,
Noel

I've done what Noel described more than once. The feature of the Audacity version that is nice is the ability to grab a slice of just the noise and use that as a guide .. so the software knows what it is looking for.

Adobe Audition does that too, now I use Studio One.

Brad, I also agree that you should find out the source of the noise in the first place. Something is not right in your signal path. Tell us you're set up from the mic itself, to where it's plugged in, how the mixer is set, the inputs, the input gain all that kind of thing. There should be no noise at all unless you're using a cheapo $9.95 mic plugged into your built in soundcard.

That won't cut it.

Bob

In RealBand, a gate is included with the PG Dynamics VST/DXI synth and works quite good.
