Back on topic. Here in the deep south most kids were raised on spare the rod and spoil the child. Very few lucky children of my generation grew up without being hit with a switch or a belt or a slap. Back then teachers and Principals could even whack you at school. Sadly, it was considered discipline not abuse.

Did that make anybody more talented. Of course not. It only made children fearful of adults. This fear was misconstrued by some adults as respect. Then there's verbal abuse which obliterates a kid's confidence and healthy self image.

Joe Jackson's abuse of his children didn't help Michael develop his musical talent but all that practice rehearsing definitely did.
