A number of the midi files I have have serious pitch issues in parts of the songs. Now I am sure the person that created these files, real keyboard players, unlike me, probably did a fine job and they have just mutated somewhere.

What I would like to do is a global reset of all pitch changing affects, that is to turn anything that bends pitch off.

Thank you all in advance for your help

Welcome to the world of freebie midi's off the internet. What could be happening is the author is using a non GM synth setup. Sometimes that info is embedded in the file. It will say it's GM or not for example and what synth was used.

If a midi file was created using a non GM synth the patch numbers won't match the GM patch numbers so the pitch bend is being applied to the wrong instrument so play around with that. Maybe you think the part is a regular guitar when it was actually a pedal steel or even an analog synth or horn section. Each of those uses different levels of pitch bend.

I soon learned that you don't want to be too hasty in stripping things like that out of what is otherwise a good midi file because it's not the file, it's you and your equipment. Stripping stuff like that out can ruin a good midi so when you save it do a save as so the original is still available for when you're better at figuring this stuff out. That happened to me a couple of times when I realized what was happening with one file I remembered another one that I had changed and didn't save the original. I then searched for it again and redownloaded it and now it sounds great.

Real Band is much better for this sort of thing than Biab is. In RB there are midi filters that you assign whatever CC it is, press OK and they're all gone. You can also go into piano roll view and adjust the pitch bend graphically. Maybe you can do some of this in Biab but I've always used RB for midi's because of the linear track display. It's simply easier to see what you're doing that way.

I totally agree with what you are saying.

What I get in 99% of the midi songs are terrible sounding guitar parts. Sometimes the sound is as bad as a Kazoo and sometimes its as good as an accordion. Never do they sound anything like guitars and I know guitars.

If it wasn't for the pitch bends I could reassign the guitar patches to great sounding pianos or organs. Something I need besides terrible guitar sounds. In those songs without pitch bends I have some truly kick [*****] B3 sounds, ditto on pianos, or even horns. I own about five of the IK Amplitude products, but I have never learned how to use them. They sound great on the web.
In the long run that would be the ticket, but I think my brain is booked until at least November. Right now, I just need an on/off button to push.

I found the "wheel" setting button in BiaB, but it does not seem to work like I expected. I am thinking it is designed for the recording mode, not to take the bends out of something already completed. I haven't looked into RB yet.

As for those manufacturers reinventing the wheel, I am not impressed. I spent over a month trying to find a work around to make my songs and my friend's Yamaha songs recognize each other. I have come to the conclusion that Yamaha is only compatible with Yamaha and I would guess Roland is only compatible with Roland. Unlike days gone by, keyboard players have to decide early on what brands they want to use for the rest of their lives. IMHO as a guitar player. Ditto on Steinberger.
