How do you handle grace notes in notation. When you generate a real chart from a real track some of the grace notes are combined with the intended final pitch note.

Now there's a musical term I've not heard in decades....

It is version 2014 (7). I have installed it on my hard drive but I also have an external one that came with the program.

RealBand and BIAB notation isn't that robust. There are only the notes. If you want grace notes and other note embellishments, you'll need to get a dedicated notation program, such as MuseScore (which is free open source software), Finale (or Finale PrintMusic or Finale SongWriter or Finale Notepad), Sibelius (or Sibelius First), Noteworthy Composer, PreSonus Notion, or Mozart. (I can't remember the name of the one Matt Finley uses...maybe he can chime in here.) Those seem to be the prevalent notation programs. You can import MIDI from RealBand or BIAB into any of these programs, but you'll have to do some post-import cleanup if you want to see grace notes (or any other note embellishments such as staccato marks, accent marks, tenuto marks, etc).

Well, mea culpa. You (and by you, I mean I) learn something new everyday.

I have to amend my previous post.

It looks like BIAB/RB have a feature I missed (don't know how I could have missed it, since there are so few features in the programs). smile

Anyway, both programs DO support individual note articulations. Specifically: slurs, crescendos, decrescendos, staccato, regular accent, legato accent, staccatisimo, and marcato accent.

You have to apply these note by note (right click on the note in editable mode and select notation symbols. You can select from there. It's a little kludgy, but it works. Looks like you can only select one per note, so you can't (for example) have a staccato accented note.

That being said, I can't find where you can do grace notes in notation. And I don't know if these articulations come through when you export to MIDI and import into a dedicated notation program.

That's where MusicXML would come in handy (hint, hint).

I've searched for Acciaccatura, Appogiatura, Grace Note, and Ornaments in Band in A Box and am convinced that the product management team have missed the mark. Even if the grace notes don't play, it is a huge benefit to have them print. There are occasions when they need to be in the lead sheet for stylistic purposes. And asking us to go use Finale or Sibelius is crazy. Even though I own and use Finale, it has its own weaknesses. This really should not be so hard. Every year, I would hope that the developers would add a couple of these so-called obscure features.

Ahh, well, time to break out the felt-tip.

Chris, maybe this is good wishlist item?
Using the Clean function, the notation display can show / hide grace notes, but doesn't display them as grace notes in the correct format (smaller type note)
