Yes, the choice of style is important here.

Just to clarify, if you use the push function, it's a 1/8 or 1/16 note shift earlier, not 1/8 or 1/16 of a beat. In other words, in a 4/4 time signature, a 1/8 push is one-half of a beat.

Some 6/8 styles allow pushes and they display, like 6_8 feel Country where a push of 1/8 is required to get chords on beat 1 and 4 (of six) instead of 1 and 5, but AfroCuban 6/8 doesn't seem to accept or display pushes. So, what style are you using?
